Can’t decude between nazgul or Pegasus ? I’d like some more heat on tap than the 490r and 498t privides and a little more spank and clarity. Would these do it?
To be honest, i wouldnt recommend the Nazgul in a LP. It has a very honky midrange that would not meld well with an LP. The Sentient would go very well with an Alternative 8, Distortion or Duncan Custom.
I don't think the Pegasus would be hotter than the 498T, TBH. More clarity, sure, but if anything, I'd say the 498T probably has the edge on output.
Make up for the Sentient? You mean output wise? The Sentient is an awesome neck pickup to be sure. I have the Pegasus and the Naz and I would say normally I prefer the Pegasus. The Naz has an edge to it some may find "harsh". The Peg is a more even keeled pup, way more polite and versatile. The Nazgul can hit hard but its sharp like a razor. I still like the Naz way more than the Winter tho, only Duncan I just couldnt get along withCould something like the alt 8 make up for the sentient and then some? Clarity is nearly as important to output to me but I don’t want to sacrifice anymore than is absolutely necessary
Out of those three which would have the most dynamic range and yet not be overly agressive and still do metal? My black winters are so hot anytime I do something than the lightest licking it clips majorly
Cleans to crunch Alt 8 / Sentient much of the time in the middle position running both through my Jet City JCA 22H Custom.
Man, it's so hard to go wrong with a Custom in the bridge of an LP Custom, especially if you can get your hands on an 80's version of the SD Custom. There are always a couple on Reverb at any given time. The clarity of the Custom is superb.
Custom/Sentient i a great choice for an LP.
To me, the Nazgul doesn't sound good. It sounds like it's got a built in three quarter cocked wah. A very awkward, prominent upper-mid hump but without the benefit of the detailed treble that usually goes along with a sound like that.
The Sentient neck seems like a great pickup though.
Im pretty sold on the sentient beck but bridge between 59 custom, 59 custom hybrid or alt 8 idk which will be able to coalesce with sentient best and still give me versatility clarity and gain for metal

Unfortunately I don't have the answers for you as I don't have experience with all those pickups.
I can tell you that the Custom, Alt 8, and Custom 5 all use the same winds but different magnets (which you can buy for like $5 a pop and then swap out as you like) so in this case, buying a Custom gives you some options.
For metal, the Custom will probably get you closer to what you want than the 59/Custom, as the regular Custom will have more mids and output.
I just bought a Custom 5 as I wanted to try basically a hot 59 pickup with good treble response and some mid scoop for clarity. 59/Custom is a bit too low output and scooped for chunky high gain in my opinion. Not that it can't do it, but there are better options I think.
For high gain, the Custom, Distortion, Black Winter, Custom 5 (with a decent boost), and maybe Pegasus are what you'll really want to look at. Sorry to give you more options, hah.
