Serious amp regret

Anyone else had serious regret on selling an amp. Last year i sold my Roland cube cause i wanted to get around a good low watt tube amp for bedroom metal and recording so i done my research ( next to no guitar stores where i live) and one that kept popping up was the Orange dark terror, i looked at some clips and the thing sounded killer at the time i was into watching Rob Chapman and he was super convincing that the amp was completely killer so i went and got it sold my Roland cube to help pay for it and man i wish i hadn't. I know Roland cubes are cheap as chips but still the regret getting rid of that super versatile little amp. So here i am looking for another bedroom amp (failing miserably) for metal ( one with two channels this time) and stupidly i want to try something else cause i love the feel of tube amps. You'd think i just go get another cube but i guess I'm gassing for something i haven't had. anyway thread point being have you sold any amp that you thoroughly miss now.

'69 Fender Bassman 50... and thankyousoverymuch of reminding me... why don't you just give me a papercut and pour some lemon juice on it, while you're at it?! *sob*

Re: Serious amp regret

tube amps for bedroom use dont make sense to me and im a tube snob. first of all a 5w tube amp doesnt sound like a 50w amp but much quieter and a quiet 50w amp usually sucks. i dont really play at home but if i did id have a good modelling amp. for stage use i wont use anything but a good tube amp but for quiet home use all the good things become i liability, mostly the volume involved to get a great tone

Re: Serious amp regret

Things I would consider for bedroom sound...

1. A small PA system (50-150w)

2. A multi effect pedal like vox tonelab, boss GT100, zoom g3, etc...

The nice thing about a small PA is that they're full range units and have multiple inputs so you can adjust your sound thru the modeler then dial up whatever volume is suitable and it doesn't change the playing dynamic like even a solid state guitar amp, tube amps usually only sound right when fully cranked..

Yea ide love a good modeling amp. Thought of the axfx2 but can't justify parting with that coin for what i use it for. That and I'm completely oblivious to what's out there

Ha! I bet that was a serious regret!

Mine was a Mesa Boogie DC-5, loved that tone!

Re: Serious amp regret

I regret selling my Soldano SP-77 preamp, but I was broke at the time and it was either sell it or my Marshall Jubilee head. As much as I miss the Soldano, I think I made the right choice.

Re: Serious amp regret

I've owned around 90 amps in my lifetime, so yeah, there's a bunch I'd love to have back.

87 Marshall Jubilee 2555 I bought new and gigged for 5 years with, until I stupidly let it go for $650 in '93.

1971 Marshall Superbass modified for more gain that was used on a lot of major recordings....last owner was the late Derek Frigo from Enuff'Z'Nuff. Sold it for $1000 to fund my Bogner XTC. I'd love to have that back.

I was endorsed by Blues Pearl in the 90's and had half their product line. Sold them all, but wish I had the clones of a Deluxe, Bassman, Dumble, and 50W plexi back in my hands.

92 Matchless DC-30 in gray that would be worth BIG bucks now. I kept the Chieftain in black.

80's Risson ETA 80 (2 6550) head. One of the first "boutique" Marshalls. Slash used them before his Jubilees.

Marshall JMP-1/Mesa 295. The rig I gigged with after selling my Jubilee 2555.

Luckily, I have a cream of the crop stable now, so I don't miss them. If I could have all those amps back for free, I'd be glad to take them.

Re: Serious amp regret

Try a Yamaha THR 10, it may be just the ticket! Great at low volume, comes with recording/ editing software and not too expensive.

Re: Serious amp regret

I had a silverface 70s vibro champ that I let go. I eventually got a princeton reverb but that vibro champ was sweet.

Also swapped a Sunn beta lead for some other gear at one point. That was a good amp.

Re: Serious amp regret

VHT Pitbull Ultra Lead... Sold it cause they came out ones with a built in graphic EQ... Things intervened and I never have bought another.

Re: Serious amp regret

Mesa Rocket 44. Sometimes it haunts my dreams, appearing in night terrors as a cloaked figure standing over my Tubemeister 18 head with a cutting torch and a jug of motor oil.

Re: Serious amp regret

It was just a roland cube. There are thousands of them, everywhere and cheap. It's not like you've sold a Dumble and Howard Alexander himself won't even consider building you another one. You don't have to spend years looking for the right one and sell a house to pay for it so to be honest, you don't really need all of this "serious regret".

Re: Serious amp regret

Mesa Lonestar 100/50 2x12 combo. It wasn't what I was after at the time, but it sure would be perfect now.

I don't know if it counts or not, but when my ex g/f and I broke up, I lost access to our '62 5f1 Tweed Champ and her '68 AB165 Silverface Bassman, '77 Silverface Tube Reverb head and '64 Blackface Tube Reverb head.

Re: Serious amp regret

I once, back in the 80's, lent a buddy of mine my Fender Bassman 100 watt head, along with a Fender 2x15 cab. Don't know exactly what year it was, but it was a blackface and all tube. It was subsequently stolen one night, along with most of the rest of his equipment, from a practice space that they were renting. I regret not pressing the issue when the home owners insurance paid off the claim.

Re: Serious amp regret

I just want to step in and say my 80w and 120w tube half stacks sound awesome at bedroom volumes. I have little practice amps but i don't use them.

Re: Serious amp regret

Not sure if I regret it but I could have done with keeping my old Marshall JCM2000. Always wanted to start a function/covers band and that would have covered most tones for the genres from rock/blues/pop/soul/etc. I sold it in 2013 cos I acquired a 6505+ for my band which is a far better amp for what I need it for, and I don't really play in any other bands to need another amp, though I know several artists run 2 amps at once, notably Four Year Strong (Orange with a JCM800) and Green Day (2 modded Marshall heads together).
I probably won't get the space or time to be setting up two amps on stages anytime soon anyway!

Re: Serious amp regret

My amp regrets still haunt me.... My near mint '65 JTM 45... Sold for £100, my lizard green Fender ProSonic combo and my Cornford Hellcat :-(.
