SETH LOVER in STRAT

Would the SeTh Lover humbucker be too bright to put in the bridge postion of a strat guitar with ebony fingerboard/ vintage trem? I am going for a vintage ( 60's and 70's hard rock/blues) sound.

I know that they wouldn't be classified as a "bright" pickup, but wondereed if in combination with strat guitar and trem if the pickup would sound a bit thin with not enough beef. Does that make sense

Oliver -

That's and interesting question, and I'm not sure that I've seen that question asked before. My initial though is that it would be no brighter than a PG or an APH II in the bridge position. The Seth is still an AII mag, so that will help with some warmth.

I've played the Seth neck, PG neck and APH neck, all in strats, but the only bridge pup in a true strat setup I've tried is the CC....that is the ultimate strat bridge pup IMO. I have a 59's in the bridge of a H/S/S Basswood "shredder" guitar, and it is certainly not too thin...so I think the Seth would be ok.

That might provide with some interesting sounds.

Hey Oliver - that does make sense to me, especially if you've got a cover on the Seth. Thin and more like chicken is what I would expect but haven't tried it. Personally, I like a Custom 5 a lot in an alder strat - clear highs and strong bass - but that's why Seymour makes all these different pickups

For an LP or a 335, Seths are great...

I guess I'll try out different pickups myself to see which ones to me sound best.
It seems that in research from other threads it is interesting how peoples perception of sound is so different from one another . 2 people with the Exact same guitar would probably have 2 very different opinions on what " full" or " warm " or "fat" pertaining to that guitar would be.

When I was in NYC music store-hopping, I briefly played a Strat with an SL in the bridge through a Rectoverb. Granted, it was a short-lived experience, but from what I remember it sounded pretty good - warm and fat, but definately not overly-so.

Yeah, Scott from SD recommended a SL( " Seth Lover all the way")for the bridge but I also talked to another tech and he said that the Sl would not be the best choice it " would be too weak sounding and also make the strat sound twangy" which is not what I was going for in the bridge.

i think a seth sounds great in a strat. its gonna sound vintage which means it wont have a huge bottom and lots of output but i think its a great sound. i have used a pearly gates in an alder/maple body maple/ebony neck guitar and i love the sound. the seth doesnt bite as hard as the pg but the mids are fantastic

That's great info as my guitar that I am putting together is alder body with maple/ebony neck. I have just been obsessing about what pickups to choose as I do like to play a lot of different styles and want to make sure I don't settle

I'm thinking of replacing the Phat Cats in my H/H strat hardtail (alder with a mple/ebony neck) with either a set of Seths, or a C5/Seth combo.
