Seth Lover Neck for AS153

Hi, I'm thinking of switching out the neck pickup on my Ibanez AS153 with a Seth Lover. I'm looking for something a bit warmer and fat than what's in there now. I rarely use the bridge pickup (like have I at all?). A couple of questions

1. Is this a good pickup for what I'm looking for?

2. How hard are these to change? I've never changed pickups in a humbucker guitar before.

Thanks for any help!

Re: Seth Lover Neck for AS153

This should be an easy swap. You got the braided shield (ground) and the hot wire. It will absolutely be an improvement. I think the Seth Lovers are my favorite pickups in any semi-hollow.

Just noticed that the pickup comes with either 1 or 4 conductors. I'm not sure what I need. Can you clarify for me? Thanks

Re: Seth Lover Neck for AS153

4 conductor allows for split, parallel, or spin o split options. 1 conductor only allows for regular series operation.

Re: Seth Lover Neck for AS153

If your Ibanez is already wired for splitting coils via push/pull pots, etc, then order a 4 conductor version. If it isn't, just get the regular stock Seth Lover.

Thanks, It's got a three way switch for the neck pickup so I guess I need the 4 way.

Re: Seth Lover Neck for AS153

I personally prefer the vintage 2 conductor braided wire. If I want a single coil sound I'll pick up a strat, where single coils belong. Lots of folks like splitting humbuckers though, so it's a personal choice.

Re: Seth Lover Neck for AS153

What does the 3 way switch do?

Puts the neck pickup in series, parallel or single coil mode. At least thats my understanding.

"The Tri-Sound switch for the neck pickup allows you to select Humbucker in series (traditional), parallel (brighter, single coil type tone w/ lower output and hum cancellation) or coil-tapping for a single coil sound"

So score the 4 conductor Seth if you want to hook it up to that.

Re: Seth Lover Neck for AS153

There's a number of other things very useful you can do with 4 conductor PU's, like spin-a-split and coil swap mod. You never know down the road what you may want to do with a PU, especially in your case as you're still new to this. Keep your options open.

Ordered with options! Should be here tomorrow.
