Seth or PG neck in LP?

Hello everyone,

I'm trying to decide between these two, and I've come to the conclusion that I need some help...
The guitar is a '95 LP Std. with a Custom bridge and I want it to match up well with whichever neck pickup I use. I like the original 490R tone in general if that helps. I've used a '59 neck but it's low end is a bit too boomy to me.
So, I want something similar to the 490R that will handle chords well without muddying up with a less boomy low-end than the '59 and with a good lead tone also. I figure Alnico II since it has a softer low end than Alnico V.

I love the Seth Lover...it's clear, fat and warm, but has very pleasing highs too. Makes a great pickup for blues and jazz both for chords and solos. Fine for rock too! I use it in my Hamer Monoco Super Pro because the stock neck pickup in my Monoco sounded muddy to me. The Seth doesn't...it cleared those tones right up.

Seymour describes the Seth as being great for players who are tired of all soup and no twang...or something like that.

The PG is great too, but brighter and some would say more aggressive. More of a blues/rock pickup than a blues/jazz pickup...tho it'll do any style. ( as will the Seth )

Warren Haynes gets a great tone out of his Les Paul with the PG's...and if you like Billy Gibbons ZZ Top tone the PG is the pickup for that! You probably know it's designed to capture the tone of the particular pafs in Billy G's 50's Les Paul: Pearly Gates.

That's just the thing though, I'd like both! Maybe I just need another LP...
Anyway, my band's style actually has all three... jazz / blues / rock to hard rock, though I guess I could lean on the Custom for more of the rock tone.

Hmmm... ok, what about clarity? Does one have more clarity than the other in the neck, especially on the low strings?

Hey bro....click on this link for some sound clip comparisons I did in the neck position of my Dean Hardtail. It weighs in at over 9.5 lbs, so it's heavy like a LP. I'm currently using the APH II in the neck position, but liked the Seth 2nd best. The APH will have more bass than you're looking for, but the Seth should be the ticket. For me the PG has too much midrange sizzle and not enough clarity...but that's just my taste. It's one of the favorite neck humbuckers here on the forum for a reason. Let me know which one you like. The clips are labled, and are somewhere near the middle of the page.
