Setting up you're guitars

Re: Setting up you're guitars

Trial and error. Nut / Bridge/ Relief / are easy. Fretwork requires skill and experience. It's like Dentistry, don't get a partial or a crown if you need a new grill.

Re: Setting up you're guitars

I started with this stuff when I was 15, had my first electric a week. Tore it down to a pile of parts and had it all back together in not long a time. Had to figure out how the 5-way switch worked and rewire the electronics but with trial and error, I got it.

Asked a lot of questions to those who knew more than me and just regularly kept up with it. Fretwork I still haven't done other than polishing.

I've got that book somewhere. It's a wealth of info.

Re: Setting up you're guitars

Nothing much wrong with trial and error, except that there is a lot of "error" involved. I did it that way for 45 years without the aid of Youtube, etc. (obviously).

But get Dan's book, if for nothing else, to put it all into perspective to see why what you're doing works. But chances are, you'll learn a heck of a lot by reading his book...even if you think you know it all right now.

Re: Setting up you're guitars

This book has pretty much everything you could wanna know.

Definitely educated me. And if I can understand it, ANYONE can.

Re: Setting up you're guitars

I want to learn hot to set up my guitars properly instead of getting others to do it, how did you guys learn? I am curious and running low on money for others to do it.

Hey man, I know I mentioned this in another thread, but I work at a music store in Ottawa... and since your a fellow SDUGF member, PM me and maybe you can pop in sometime and I'll show you a few things.
