So a local retailer has started to stock more unusual brands: Eastwood, Reverend, DiPinto and Jerry Jones. Now I've been curious about Reverends, so I popped by to check 'em out.
Top of the pile were a p90 loaded club king model:
and a Gretsch-style pickup loaded Flatroc:
-The Flatroc I tried had a Lestrem wang bar fitted.
I was deeply taken by the lestrem. Sort of a very slightly wilder bigsby feel.
All the guitars had very nice 60s fenderish necks, and all of them sounded remarkably good and consistent unplugged. For me, the p90 and f'tron pickups were cooler than the humbuckers, which weren't bad at all but not quite to my taste. The least inspiring sounding of the bunch was the solidbody warhawk, though I'm sure the p90 variant would be very cool. Build quality was really solid, about equivalent to Fender Japan in fit and feel.
I think I'll order an orange flatroc with les trem:
I also tried a Jerry Jones Neptune, in blood red with two pickups. Same shape as this guy, sort of dano meets Jetsons:
-I was blown away at how cool this guitar was. I have a new Dano reissue on layby right now, and I've got to say that the Jerry Jones was a much nicer guitar. Four times the price, though. Still, they appear to run for much less secondhand, so I'll keep my eyes out for one. I'd thoroughly recommend one to anyone who wanted a giggable, great sounding Dano-style ax.
