As my wife said to me at the beginning of our relationship, that's some impressive wood you've got there!

What year is the Bassman? Reissue?

BTW, that looks like I taught you how to solder.

At least two of those pickups have leads more than long enough to make it all the way to jack! I can't quite figure out where the leads for the other pickup are, but the two that are easy to identify definitely don't need any extending.

I would priceed by first undoing what you did. Then take another picture and ask for help doing what it is you want to do.

because its more trouble than its worth trying to get that tiny thin red red hot wire, with all the tension of the rest of the lead on it ,soldered onto the *jack terminal. Much easier to solder a thicker wire onto the end of that flimsy thin red hot pickup wire , and then solder *that onto the switch terminal.

If it was stock Strat pickup w/ pushback wire and two big thick wires( ground and hot) , than yeah, no problem.

Anyone get me?

*EDIT- I SHOULDN'T EVEN HAVE MENTIONED THE JACK, THAT WAS AN ERROR- THAT ISNT RELEVANT HERE, I MEANT THE 5 POSITION SWITCH ONLY.

Nope. I never said anything about actually connecting the pickup leads to the jack. My "enough wire to make it to the jack" comment was simply to make the point that those pickup leads can reach anywhere in the control cavity. I.e. if there is enough lead to reach the jack, which is the farthest component from where the leads enter the control cavity, then there is enough lead to reach the switch, which is very close to where the lead wires enter the control cavity.

No, we don't get you.

Re: Sew what do ewe guise dew with exposed control cavity wires?

I'm with you Jerry
Get some 3M tape . It cost a bit more but it should last years
We'll sort it out next time I'm out that way

Re: Sew what do ewe guise dew with exposed control cavity wires?

That hurts me to look at. In about a half hour, you can clean that up and never have to worry about it again.

Re: Sew what do ewe guise dew with exposed control cavity wires?

OMG!

Take it all apart and start all over. Use shrink tubing, it's easy to use, does the job better than tape, is neater, and it looks great. Tape has very little use in the control cavity.

But, to your credit and the discredit of EDX, your soldering looks fine. It's the wiring jungle/rat's nest that is troubling.

Clean it up, Jer, you know you can do a better job than that.

Well, normally when someone has a jungle/rat nest wiring solder probably sucks, after looking at his wiring again and checking his solder.... it looks fine for such a rat nest, a bit too much solder on a pair of joints.... but that's all......

sent from my crappy junk-phone

Jer, you can simply cut back the outer black cover to expose more length of the 4 conductors if you need more stretch to make connections.

Re: Sew what do ewe guise dew with exposed control cavity wires?

Kind of reminds me of my dad...he'll put in twice the time, twice the materials and twice the effort to avoid doing it right the first time ;)

Does he also live in a horders paradise?

Actually...

Growing up, my friends and I regularly joked that my dad had "hoarding tendencies". Granted, he's never been as bad as some of the *real* hoarders I've met, but he definitely gets the club newsletter :)

My sisters and I have spent years trying to help him sort through his messes, finish projects and organize his life, but it wasn't until my grandmother died and mortality became a reality that he finally said "maybe I have too much stuff to really enjoy all of it..." and made some positive changes.

Nonetheless, he still struggles with some impulsive purchasing, a tendency toward project accumulation (an unrealistic understanding of how much time, money and resources even "simple" things really take), large degrees of clutter (i.e. tons of stuff in boxes, bins and drawers without any consistent organization, as well as using every surface in the house as "storage", etc.) and, of course, that habitual condition most of us would refer to as "laziness", although he doesn't see himself that way at all.
