So, is this a new OEM pickup made for Ibanez? It is featured on the 2021 AZ...N models.

If I'm not mistaken, the Hyperions were based around the Pegasus and the Sentient? Any scope on this new ones?

I doubt anyone has tried them yet, so we have to go on whatever ad copy Ibanez provides.

Yeah, I see that pickup only being referenced briefly in the ad copy for that model. I have no info what it is or anything about it really. We have to wait for the model to get into the hands of people and reviews to come out.

Thanks, Mincer. I know both are recent products, but I was just curious if anyone had any idea of what it is, apart from the info on the Ibanez ad (passive/Alnico).

Guess I'll have to wait and see....

I'm not sure about the Hyperion neck being based on the Sentient, but I know the bridge isn't based on the Pegasus, unless it's an overwound one. The Trembucker is around 15.75k Ohms.

FYI, from Riley, an SD collaborator, this info on the Hyperions:

"Custom wind by MJ for Ibanez. They share some DNA with the Pegasus/Sentient set. The pickups are exclusive to the Ibanez AZ series guitars, and they are USA made - not Duncan Designed. That's all I can say for now. Ibanez will probably release more specs at NAMM."

Well, perhaps it's an overwound one like I mentioned. I wonder how more wire would effect the tone on the Pegasus?

Any more info on these? I love my beefed up (gravity storm/injector) 2204 so much I'm considering a 2204N as a more traditional variant

I feel like the only vids on Youtube anymore are paid promotions. When AZs were new, we got tons of review videos. Now with the AZS (tele type that looks like a KILLER instrument) and the AZ...N , there's very little out there aside from shop videos. Maybe normal people have just stopped making YT videos?

I think there's been no AZS reviews because the guitars haven't been shipped till recently (b/c pandemic), so someone who's buying one off the shelf simply couldn't. With Ibanez, numerous models which were released earlier in the year are only now starting to make it to dealers.

Regarding the Fortuna pups, I think they're intended to be more vintagey? I recall reading that somewhere, don't take it as gospel! Other differences in the 2204N include a the compound radius fingerboard, brass saddles and trem block (Ti saddles and steel block on regular AZ), non recessed, 5 springs from the factory. The rest is the same. So it might be the case - the regular HSS and HH AZs are the modern ones with recessed trems, Titanium bits, hotter pups, while the N has more traditional elements :dunno:.
