Seymour Duncan Liberator

Re: Seymour Duncan Liberator

I can now have my LPs with full sized P-90s and HBs and swap them around.

Hail Falbo!!!!!

Uh, now I don't have an excuse to buy more guitars.

Re: Seymour Duncan Liberator

Frank I don't think it was THAT ugly. There's this guy in town who, on "Third Thursdays" (which is a downtown street music thing), sports a HOT PINK Jem with his band. He's a good player but good LORD is that a gawdy axe!

Maybe that Ibby could use some black stripes on it? ;)

Re: Seymour Duncan Liberator

When I got mine in the mail, there were no instructions as to what it was (I figured further info or parts would be coming) so I put it aside. Now I can't wait to try it- hopefully it can be something that will make mine (and my customers) very happy with all the time they saved. Looking forward to additional components in the series.

Same here. Exactly the same here. That was my deal too. Frank offered to call a few times but we could never hook up on a good time.

Now, the very next time I have the strings of my Silo, it's going in there.

Re: Seymour Duncan Liberator

Because....?

because the conductor junctions stay in place better and there is not any oxidation issue also, when you use a mechanical method the conductors are exposed to air.
That said, this thing is useful for everyone not knowing how to make a good solder work (a bad soldering is way worst than a mechanical contact)

Re: Seymour Duncan Liberator

Gold contacts and pins are used in all military and aerospace electronic equipment because it does not corrode. Silver is next best followed by Copper (copper on a circuit board is protected and will not oxidate but a bare stranded wire will). These contact points have to withstand many "G" forces and "Shake and Bake" environment tests. So I have to disagree with the statement that mechanical connections are some how inferior to direct solder joints.

The fact is solder joints are more susceptable to oxidation because of tin and lead are being used and these metals are far down the galvanic corrosion list. Thats why it dulls over time even if it is done properly. But it may take years unless you live in a very humid environment. Food for thought.

Thanks for the awesomely detailed info, I'm sold on the liberator! I guess that means I should take baby's first soldering kit off of my xmas list huh? Or is there still a need for soldering for the jack? Capacitors? I'm guessing there aren't any push pull liberators that coil split either. How much of the Jimmy Page mod could be covered with the liberators? Oh, so many questions.

Re: Seymour Duncan Liberator

You would be surprised to find out what is available today in solderless wiring kits. All the concerns you expressed are addressed, you just need to research it. I'm sure that SD will have a solution as well.

TripleShots.

Just because JP does his with 4 pushpulls doesn't mean that's the only way to do it and that you'll be struck by lightning for using another method.

This is a cool idea, right up there with the TripleShots, and once the Christmas madness is over, I'm going to look into getting some of these Liberators.

Re: Seymour Duncan Liberator

I don't know much about wiring, so question:

Is it still possible to coil tap with a Liberator installed?
