I was wondering how a Seymour Duncan SH-14 Custom 5 would sound in an ES LTD JH-600 guitar. It has a maple neck thru body, alder wings, ebony fretboard and a Kahler 2315 tremolo. When I rip out the EMGs I will put in a 500k volume pot and a 500k push/pull tone pot. This guiatr is run through a Mesa Boogie Mark IV and a 2x12 with V30s in it.

It's going to rock...what more could you want?

So it complements a bright guitar well?

Re: Seymour Duncan SH-14 Custom 5 for an ESP JH-600

If you're really worried about brightness, you might try the Custom Custom...same wind, but A2 mag. If you're down for magnet-swapping, which is easy, get the Custom 5 and, if you don't like it, put an UnOriented A5 in it (purchase from AddictionFX website or on eBay).

What exactly are you looking to improve on over the EMGs?

Re: Seymour Duncan SH-14 Custom 5 for an ESP JH-600

I want fuller sounding distorted chords, a warmer, thicker sound and more dynamics in my pups. Also more highs than the EMGs and something that works with my Mesa Mark IV.

Re: Seymour Duncan SH-14 Custom 5 for an ESP JH-600

For a warmer and thicker sound I recommend you the Custom Custom. The Custom 5 has little mids and a more hollow sound.

Re: Seymour Duncan SH-14 Custom 5 for an ESP JH-600

You might want to look at the ALt 8 pup. What type of music would you be playing?

Re: Seymour Duncan SH-14 Custom 5 for an ESP JH-600

A pup with minimal mids is fine since my Boogie has a ****-ton of mids. I play everything but mainly heavy music in e standard, classic rock and some jazz and blues.

Re: Seymour Duncan SH-14 Custom 5 for an ESP JH-600

try a C5, if it doesnt tick all your boxes, you can fine tune with a magnet change.

Re: Seymour Duncan SH-14 Custom 5 for an ESP JH-600

you want a warmer thicker sound but more highs than the EMGs..
sounds like a spectrum bend out of the matrix
