IF he never used hot pick ups . . . why put it in his sig Strats, that is suposed to be a dead, spot on copy, of his original(s) ?

I read that SRV asked Fender to develop Texas Special pickups because he wanted to get the same sound using smaller gauge strings. Maybe he used some prototypes live but he died before recording with them. So an SRV signature Strat with Texas Special is a logical choice for Fender.
