SFX-03 review, first impressions

Picked up one at GC 2 weeks ago. Still putting it through it's paces. Sounds especially good paired with a blackface pre-amp circuit. If you have an older fender amp , especially a single channel amp you now have a quality 3 channel amp at your foot for $200. The alteration in your base tone is minimal, so if you are pairing it with a crappy sounding amp you will likely get a crappy sounding overdriven sound... BUT put it in front of a great sounding clean amp and now you get great sounding overdriven sounds. The rhythm channel is very open, the lead channel does compress the sound more noticably but that is what happens when you push the signal more.
Basically this thing will turn an old fender into a 3 channel Mesa Boogie Mark series amp ( for $200). More like the MK II, than the MK III in terms of quality. THe overdrive is smoother, like the MK II.
Still haven't played it a lot with my marshall or vox pre-amp.

This makes me want to go get mine out of layaway. I've gotta get myself under control here. I'm giving in to my GAS way too frequently...

I built Evan's amp specifically with this pedal in mind. Ironically enough, it turned out to be a modified blackface circuit AB763 with a tweed deluxe thing going on the normal channel. But, to make a long story short, I concur with al's assessment on the fender thing being a good match.

Next time I build an Edana, I'll give the pedal a go with it. see how friendly it is there. Since the JTM45 is pretty much a fender circuit, I expect stellar results.
