I thought I'd add an additional comment on the SFX-03 now that I've had it a while longer.

In addition to how the box sounds by itself, I'm finding the SFX-03 to be an incredible piece of equipment to push other pedals. One example is to put it in front of a RAT (one of my old favorites) with a little boost on the Rhythm Channel. It's amazing how it rounds out and warms up the tone while retaining the coloring of the RAT (same results with other drive pedals, too; ie., Blues Driver, Tubescreamer, etc.). This purpose, in and of itself, makes it a keeper.

This really interests me. Can you explain a little more? So just a hint of gain/volume on rhythm? I'd like to try this into a Line6 Toneport of POD, just to see if it can "tube" it up.

Yeah, basically just providing a *fairly* clean boost in front of the other pedals I mentioned really brings them to life and retains their coloration. You know how it is with many stomp boxes...you like their tone, but wish they gave a little more of what they are. I'm finding this approach to provide that *transparent* extra body...I'm guessing because the SFX-03 is acting as tube pre-amp to the end pedal.

I can't answer the question that everyone seems to have..."Will this bring a processor to life"?...at least I can't yet. I have a Tonelab and DG Stomp that I use for recording and headphone playing, but haven't had the time yet to put the SFX-03 in front of either. I read someone's comments elsewhere raving the results when he tried it. My guess is that it might help, but processors have a different feel than playing through an amp. As good as they get, they aren't quite the real thing. I'll follow up after I try it out and play with it for a while.

I hope this gives you a little better idea regarding my original comment. You'll only know when you try it yourself. Yeah, I know, but that's another couple hundred bucks, right? Such is the life we've accepted it to be when we allowed ourselves to become addicted to gear and experimentation. Hey, you can always sell it if it ain't for you.

Have you tried it the other way around -- Rat in front of SFX-03 pedal, like a screamer juicing a tube amp? When I get a proper 808 type pedal I had been planning on seeing how it sounded pushing the tube in a Radial Tonebone, but I hear the tube in the TB isn't part of the gain structure, just adds some color. :boggled:


Oh, wait, I suppose I can try an 808 in front of my Mesa Bottle Rocket. I keep forgetting I have one. :smack:

I've run a Plexitone, FD II 10th, CM Plexitone, Pharoah Amps Sweet Cheetah, T-Rex Mudhoney & a few other OD boxes........

Right now, I own the SFX-03 & a Mesa Boogie Bottle Rocket...both run VERY WELL together with the SFX-03 either before or after the Bottle Rocket.

What Frank Falbo is saying is it maintains the tone of your amp, just gives you 2 more channels to choose from.

I run it through a Celtic Edana (JTM45)...it's a single channel amp. The SFX-03 allows me to run clean (BYPASS), crunchy RHYTHMs, & then the LEAD boosts the crap out of it....all the while, it still sounds like a JTM45.

Does that make sense?

My Edana JB007 has 4 input jacks, 2 for Normal channel and 2 for the High Treble channel. Whoops, that's 2 channels.

I use a trimode with the jumper (Stereo jack for out / in into a pedal and return) plugged into a FD II.

And I use a jumper jack between channel one and two and blend the normal and High Treble channel just like I do on my Mark II and Marshall JTM45.

I am looking to purchase a SFX-03 when I find one and play it through the amp pictured below.

I'm not exactly interested in buying a multieffects unit, I was just curious. But I know what you mean. I've tested out RATs, 808's and other ODs and a lot of them just seem very aggressive. I think I'm going to buy an SFX-03, and if there's any other ODs I find I need, well I'll have to try this out.

2 Hi/2 Lo, 4 inputs....jumpered or not, I consider it a single channel amp.

As opposed to an amp that has 2 separate channels with 2 separate voices ie. clean channel & dirty channel, that are footswitchable.

Regardless, the SFX-03 is a fine combination for the Edana...and I'm sure it'll be great with that Fender. I tried it thru a Pro Reverb & although I preferred the FD II on the Fenders, the SFX worked just as well.

Regardless, the SFX-03 is a fine combination for the Edana...and I'm sure it'll be great with that Fender. I tried it thru a Pro Reverb & although I preferred the FD II on the Fenders, the SFX worked just as well.

I use the SFX-03 with my old Vibrolux Reverb. It sounds great for what I do which is old rock, jazz, blues type stuff.
