SG Pickup Recommendations

Hello again everyone. I appreciate all the help with the last topic, but I wanted some more opinions.

I think I need a new pair of humbuckers for my SG Standard. I find the current pickups to be harsh on the first three strings and muddy on the lower three strings.

I play a bunch of different styles, but my biggest influences are Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Weezer, and Linkin Park.

I'm just looking for a pair of humbuckers to complement my SG, give it a more balanced eq, and sound good clean and overdriven.

Let me know your suggestions and thanks ahead of time.

You can also play with the height of pickups, see if that helps any before replacing the pickups, closer to the strings they will sound brighter, further away will sound warmer.

But if you are looking for a change, I think a set of 59s or maybe the Custom 5 or Custom Custom/Jazz would be in order

Some sets I've tried in my SG that handle the music you play (in the order I prefer, basically, which ones stayed in the guitar the longest):

Jazz set
Whole Lotta Humbucker set
Pearly Gates bridge, Jazz neck
Pearly Gates set
59/Custom bridge, Seth neck
Custom bridge, Jazz neck
59 bridge, Pearly Gates neck
Custom-Custom bridge, Seth neck (or Alnico 2 Pro neck)

which set is better for you might depend on the amp and speaker you play through

Thanks for the suggestions. I've played around with the pickup height back when I first got the guitar, but no matter what it still has the same problems.

Yeah, definitely considering most of the ones on that list.

Bogner Ecstasy 3534 with a pair of V30s.

Custom/Jazz set almost always sounds great for driven rock sounds in Gibson type guitars.

If you’re looking for a less high output bridge pickup and your Bogner is on the darker side, PG/Jazz might work as well. I currently have a PG8/Jazz combo in my Mockingbird that sounds killer for heavier rock, old school metal, and punk.
