SG Standard vs. 61 reissue...

Re: SG Standard vs. 61 reissue...

The ebony fretboard gives it a more bitey high end, which doesn't ring exactly the same as the rosewood fretboards. It's all a matter of taste, of course. Also, many of the SG Customs and Supremes have heavier Gotoh type tuning pegs and headstock binding, which adds a bit of weight. I'd really want to play one of those guitars before buying, WITH A STRAP! If you buy an SG, put a strap on the guitar in the store, and assess the balance, because lots of SG's are neck heavy. It makes them miserable guitars to stand with because the neck always feels like it's tugging on your left shoulder. I like SG's, but I'd opt for one with the heaviest body possible.

I'd take the 61 just because I hate the standard's pickguard so much... but then again I'm ignorant:D

Re: SG Standard vs. 61 reissue...

I loved my SG Standard, great guitar. Infact is the best neck I've played....I had and LP, Strat, and RG (which is a fast neck)...and the SG Standard for me was the best.....The only thing I found difficult to accept was the thin body...It takes a while to get used to but I'll take the standard over the '61 anyday....
