SG Tone Problems - Please Help!

Re: SG Tone Problems - Please Help!

Cough Tony Iommi again cough..

But really, if something doesn't work for you, change it. And if it sounds good, play it!!

Re: SG Tone Problems - Please Help!

Ok, so i came home tonight a little early, plugged the SG into the AVT20 and just cranked it...neighbors be damned. Rolled the gain up to about 9, and I also tuned down to E flat. It sounded molten. So it looks like the issue was with the amp. Now I'll just have to save up for a tube-driven Marshall.

As for the pups - the '59 bridge sounds great. I will say though that i'm not too happy with the Pearly Gates in the neck. It sounds dull. I'm going to put it through a few more tests, but I may be looking for a new neck pup.

Once again, I agree with Lew.

Unless you didn't get a good piece of mahogany, you should get nice thick tone from it. I've got a set of Seths in mine and it's really versatile.

Jeff

Jeff has that right.

My '66 has Antiquities and a Bigsby and sounds real sweet through a Blues Junior.

Indeed it does. Steve's is one of the sweetest sounding SG's I've ever played. Aged wood makes all the difference & the Ants don't hurt either.
