SH-11 Screw Coil pos. for Black/Cream

Correct me if I'm mistakin', but normally, for BRIDGE "Zebra" or Black/Cream colored pickups the white or cream colored coil is the one which contains the screws and faces the bridge. Well, that theory lasted 'till I went to musicians friend site and saw thier SH-11 pic, which is a white colored model with the SD logo on the plain coil, and the screw coil above it,.. all the characteristics of a "stereotypical" NECK pickup... however it is a bridge pup.

I think that pic is either of another pup or I stumbled upon some sort of twilight zone because if I were to install the same pickup from that pic on the bridge pos. in my Paul, the SD logo would be facing the wrong way (toward the neck).

So please, if anyone can clear this out,..I'd greatly appreciate it.

ANYWAY - my real question is,.. if I order a black/cream-colored SH-11, (regardles of any online dealer, or pic or whatever) which coil would contain the screws,.. the cream coil or the black one? THANK YOU

Welcome to the forum

I believe the picture you saw is actually a neck pickup. Dealers sometimes use one picture for several models, and this is probably the case. In the usual config, the screw coil is facing the bridge (on a bridge pup) and the neck (on the neck pup), with the stud coils facing each other.

If you order a standard black/cream pickup ("zebra"), the cream bobbin will always be the screw coil, and the black bobbin will always be the stud coil. So if you have a set of zebra pickups, the bridge pup's screw coil is cream and facing the bridge, and the neck pup's screw coil is cream and facing the neck. This is called the "standard zebra" or just "zebra", at least on this forum.

There is also a configuration called the "reverse zebra", which you can custom-order for no extra charge I believe.

I think you've all got it backwards.

Zebra = Black screw coil/creme slug coil
Reverse zebra = Creme screw coil/black slug coil

Interesting. Maybe we do.
Anyway, I'm just looking at my set of Pearly Gates pups. When ordering I specified the zebra variety, and this is what I got:

Bridge pup: cream screw coil, black stud coil, logo is on the cream (screw) coil, PGB sticker on the bottom.

Neck pup: cream screw coil, black stud coil, logo is on the black (stud) coil, PGN sticker on the bottom.

Regular or reverse zebra, they are some great pickups.
