When on Earth will something be done about this?!?

Summary
Harmonically rich hybrid humbucker that uses one coil from the 59 Model neck and one coil from the higher output Duncan Custom model.

Description
The 59/Custom Hybrid is a medium output, gritty sounding humbucker that sparkles with upper midrange harmonic content. The brainchild of our incredibly knowledgeable forum members, this humbucker is the result of experimental coil swapping in order to push into new tonal territory. The mismatched coils, and the alnico 5 bar magnet keep the low end nice and tight, and give the mids a grind that is perfect for hard rock and metal. Plenty of crunch and bite on top as well. When split, you get the 59s 7k coil for a more distinct single coil sound.

Re: SH-16 on the Duncan Website

It should be somewhere between "when pigs and fly" and "when Hell freezes over", or a couple of weeks after that. Maybe.

No emoticon.

Re: SH-16 on the Duncan Website

Construction aside (where it says 59 neck), I think the most crucial part is the claim that it splits to the '59 coil (which would turn off every reader with the fact of its unsuitability). A potential customer would need to dig deep in the forum to find out that it's actually the Custom coil it splits to.

Re: SH-16 on the Duncan Website

Mine splits to the 59 coil, indeed.
I have a Jimmy Page wiring and only when I activate both push/pull pots for coil splitting AND phas Switching I can get the Custom coil isolated. If I only activate the coil split, I get the 59 coil.

Re: SH-16 on the Duncan Website

Well, yes, it either splits to the "59" coil (which is 3.5-3.8 k) or it splits to the "7k" coil (which is the Custom). It obviously is printed wrong, but a reasonable mind can figure that part out. And since the end user can personally choose which coil he wants it to split to by the way he wires it, it really is no big deal. But I do admit it can be a little confusing to a newbie and probably should be corrected.

I personally think it best to split to the Custom coil if you want it split (not my first preference, but a split Custom is ok)...I prefer the sound of it in parallel, however.

Re: SH-16 on the Duncan Website

There are a lot of small, um, inaccuracies, like that on the website. And there are hundreds of pages to go through. If someone comes looking for info, hopefully they will also find it or ask questions here, where we (us forum members) can help them out.

Re: SH-16 on the Duncan Website

I think they should change "split" to "tap", then sit back and watch the internet implode :D

Re: SH-16 on the Duncan Website

I've always been curious about this pickup and the purpose it serves.

I love my SH-5s (vintage and new)... so, why the hell would I want an SH-16? :scratchch

Re: SH-16 on the Duncan Website

Turn the 59/Custom 180 degrees (in the bridge position I presume), wire it so the slug (now closer to the saddles) is the default bobbin it goes to when "split" and your guitar will have a beautiful and strong and clean sound.
When a normally placed Hybrid is rewired so the default is the Hybrids slug coil it is too far away from the saddles to sound like a single coil much. But when the loud and strong slug coil is nearest the bridge, it will not disappoint.
That slug bobbin is a killer. I Love That Pickup. I have 7 guitars, 2 of them for live work, the rest for my condo are Seth's, WLH, Antiquities, Jazzb. ECP Freedom Bridge (great company), Throbak: all of which I bug smart people here about this mag or that mag, as the bobbins are the same strength pretty much.
I have a Les Paul, 2 Strats, a Tele, a L.Paul Jr., a great SG-Re-Issue, and parts for another Strat. These are my Guinea pigs,
except for my Hybrid Strat, and Hybrid SG-RI.

Ok Steve, we'll send a memo to the crack team who tirelessly and constantly maintains the vast treasure of information on the website so they can incorporate your experience with a Custom Shop 59/JB Hybrid straight away.

Which clearly doesn't include maintaining product information. It's clumsy and amateurish. SD could take a cue from other companies in the industry (like Fender).

I don't blame you personally, Dave and believe you do the best *you* can. When you say you pass the information along, I sincerely believe you. Honestly though: I think the constant excuses over the course of several years rings increasingly hollow.

Perhaps the forum doesn't have enough gravity to change the situation. If not then I urge anyone who cares to send emails to the appropriate addresses. Better yet: call the company (headquarters in Santa Barbara).

Re: SH-16 on the Duncan Website

After Frank Falbo and Evan Skopp left, the Forum was left out to dry. Or to die, if you ask me. They were the ones that had the ears close to the ground, and really cared for us, users.

The Forum and their participants are considered as a "mild nuisance" by the Head honcho. If the level of discomfort was higher, it wouldn't even be a Forum.

Re: SH-16 on the Duncan Website

I think Dave really cares, but I have a feeling he's pretty powerless in this situation.

There are some really good people here (and I sincerely believe you're one of the best, in case you had any doubts). However, I don't think it's a very wise move for SD to assume we can or should take up the slack. Having one out of every six or seven discussions turn into JB-bashing can't possibly be good for the bottom line; nor can the undercurrent of, "if it wasn't made by MJ back in the day then it's junk."
