I have a Hohner Steinberger copy as a travel guitar.
It's a H-S-S configuration, fitted with EMS select pickups.
Each pickup has its own on-off mini toggle, except
the bridge humbucker, which has an off-tapsplit-on(pre-wired series)
Trouble is, the tapped position is highly susceptible to buzz and hum,
and it's a 3-lead potted, so no possibility to rewire it parallel.
So on recommendation of my local music store, I fitted a SH-4.
I now have it wired parallel-tapped-series and in tapped, the hum
is very much less than the EMS.
Problem is, the SH-4 completely dominates the other two pickups! In
fact, it has more bass when in series than the neck pickup! Switching
either of the old pickups in does little more than suck the tone
in a serious way.
So now my question: which two single-coil form-factor stacked
humbuckers can I use for neck and middle position which will give
me a balanced level *and* impedance (SH-4 is 16k)?
Yes, I have tried looking over the FAQ and done a search.
