SH-5 and SH-6 ceramic mag question ?

Need a lil info here. I traded for a TB-14 to install in my Dime o Flame and thought it was a lil to muddy for my taste. I have a les paul with a sh-5 in it and it sounds amazing. So i had a sh-6 laying around that i had put a a5 mag in it and took the ceramic out and it sounds awesome now. So i decided to put the ceramic mag in the tb-14 thinking it would make it a tb-5. After doing the swap and installing it into my dean dime o flame they sound nothing alike it and the les paul with a sh-5. I was wondering if the ceramic mag in a sh-5 was different than the ceramic in a sh-6 because i know they both have ceramic mags any info on this?

The SH-6 distortion has a double thick ceramic magnet. The SH-5 custom has a standard thickness ceramic magnet.

Your SH-6 is now basically a Sh4 JB BTW. Theoretically atleast.

okay that explains why is sounds like it has more output than my sh-5 because the sh-6 has a bigger magnet cool.

Yup,

I personally like the idea of the JB+, a JB with a normal ceramic magnet. A perfect medium of the JB tad more vintage vibe and the distortions metal sound.

What you have done is turn your Custom 5 in to what is known as a "Big" Custom.

Besides the different magnet, the Dime o Flame and the Les Paul are much different guitars. Even putting the SH-5 into the Dime would sound much different than it does in the Les Paul.

If you like the Big Custom, then keep it. I was just trying to explain the audio differences between the two pickups. The guitars themselves much different, which would make the two pickups sound much different, even with the same magnets.

I don't think the Big Custom would sound bad in the Dime. Give it a shot.

I can tell you what it sounds like it has massive amount of output nothing like the custom, custom 5 and custom custom.... Very different pick up now. Very tight too.

Cool! I am happy you stumbled on something you like. I always experiment with magnets I have on hand before I go out and get new pickups.

Totally stumbled on too. I was thinking that the ceramic mag was going to be the same in a SH-6 as a SH-5. LOl when I got it installed in the dean dime and plug in my amp . HMMMMM something isn't the same lol. A lot more pickup verses the SH-5.
