Does anyone have pros, cons for these pickups. I love the Skynyrd sound and other classic southern rock.

They are kidna pricy, I can afford it if it will give me a good classic tone..

Unbelievable classic tone. Bought one from kjrocks right here on this forum for my Dot, REALLY opened the tone up tremendously. It's pretty bright, but not in a bad way. It's the first pickup I've ever been able to roll off the tone all the way without it turning to complete mud, and Dottie's still got much of her stock wiring! Can't wait to get some good pots and caps in her!!

I have a set in my PRS custom 22. They are incredible! Very "open" and musical sounding. Have almost a percussive feeeling to them. The descriptions of these pups don't do them justice. Kinda like a photo of the grand canyon- until you actually experience it, you don't know what its like.

Seths will work great for Skynyrd.

Let's play some ol' honk!

+1

Any of the vintage style a2 pickups should get you in the ballpark, but the Seths rule for Southern Rock. Try them, they are worth the extra $$$. I don't know anyone who has ever been disappointed with them.

Re: SH-55 seth lover model

Definitely get them. I've had them since they first came out. They're absolutely great. They can do vintage and modern well.

The live version of that song has so much energy. I pretty much hate the studio version.

Skynyrd had a great live sound. Really got the crowd going.

Seths are absolutely sublime. They were my first forray into Seymour Duncans and at the time I thought they were very expensive having just spent £375 on the guitar (a Tokai 335) another £140 was alot of cash to stump up. But I must say they made the world of difference and they are so versatile. They do everything from the classic rock tones right the way through to Brit crunch.

great pickups ... smooth, but they have bite, lots of harmonics, and mojo. :)

Agreed, the Seth is my favorite SD pickup. When compared to other nickel covered pickups they are really not that much more expensive and IMHO well worth the extra dollars.

Re: SH-55 seth lover model

i been wanting to try em but theres stil the noise issue that worries me everyitime i think about it... i play alot int he low to medium gain setings... realy like playing especialy with light glassy overdrives.. but i often like to drive my amp harder and go with high gain and metalish distortion...

one thing i can say is i very rarely see a used one for sale and they seem practicly inexistant on ebay used.. (compared to the loads of other SD's i see all the time posted) to me seems like their users are pretty happy with em no one wants to part with em.

Re: SH-55 seth lover model

I've got a Seth (n) in my R8 and a 78. I had the 78 wound on Seth Bobbins, and put on a Seth baseplate so as to be period correct in a weird sort of way. GREAT combo!

I originally had a Seth in the bridge, but it was too quacky to me for the bridge. However when D!ck (JacksonMIA) was playing the guitar it sounded GREAT.

A cool thing about Seths is that each one is numbered and SD can tell you what dealer it went to.

Dimarzio PAF............$65.99

Gibson '57 Classic ......$99.99

Seymour Duncan Seth Lover........... PRICELESS.

If it ain't good for classic stuff, I don't know what would be.

Re: SH-55 seth lover model

is it possible to wax pot it?

You could...I guess but it really doesn't squeal. Unless I'm standing in front of my half stack with it cranked and my hands not on my guitar it's quiet.

I think people put too much stock into the wax potting. A well made pup is going to have minimal problems in the first place. Second it will give you a hamonic feedback, not a microphonic squeal.

BTW I think you run the risk of deforming the bobbins though on a Seth since they are made of butyrate.

Re: SH-55 seth lover model

my amp is most always cranked, and even poted pups thend to squeal under some setings i have lol.. so if i where to try a seth i would be worried it got any worse

Re: SH-55 seth lover model

You can order them potted as a Shop Floor Custom but the potting does affect their tonal quality somewhat, especially under higher gain.

Re: SH-55 seth lover model

Well I'm convinced. Are there any good pickups that would compliment it or are two of them the way to go?

Re: SH-55 seth lover model

Is there some special reason that removing the covers on Seths is forbidden? I am assuming that since exposed bobbins is not an option for purchase that there must be a dire consequence if that cover is not there.

I'm thinking about buying one for a bandmate (classic starving artist) to put in an Ibanez HSS guitar. The stock 'bucker is too loud and brash compared to the single coils. The guitar's asthetic factor kind of requires that there be no chrome pickup cover at the bridge pickup.

If removing the cover from a Seth would be suicidal of significantly affect the tone in a bad way I'll just spring for a '59 with two black coils.

Thanks in advance.
