SH-6 in a Les Paul..

I'm looking at an Edwards Japanese LP that comes with SH-6's in both bridge and neck.

The only other option is JB/59. Are the SH-6's better for drop tunings and stuff.

I play mostly rhythm and almost always distorted. Most of what I play is in drop d or drop c.

You'll probably be wanting the SH-6. It is fuller than the JB for rhythm and has more low end chunk.

Well if you want a rather hot compressed and fizzy sounding ceramic pickup the Distortion is a pretty good choice. I used to use them in my Jackson guitars before switching to EMG's years ago. Very old school metal.

I never tuned down as low as C though, and not on a shorter LP scale either so I can't really say exactly how well the Sh6 would handle that low end.

The Sh-5 is a very good pickup though for low tunings as it stays very very tight. Its still a very high output pickup that would excel at metal as well.

Max Cavalera of Soulfly uses the distortion in his SG's though and he's usually tuning pretty low but his ESP custom shop guitars are using a longer scale.

Personally pickups aside, I just don't find LP's that well suited for the really low tunings. 25.5" or even better 27" scales, are definatly the way to go

Edwards makes a very very nice guitar for the money though so you can't go all that wrong.

I have SH-6s in my Epiphone Les Paul (bridge and neck) and I love them. I pick up my Epi instead of my Gibson most of the time.

I have a DD in my #1 Guitar (Les Paul)...it's been there for 18 years, it's not going anywhere! It's always done everything I've asked even dropped tunings and cleans! I have a 59 in the neck.............

I am getting ready to re-install a SH-6 set back in to one of my Les Pauls.

It's a solid choice.

The SH-6 is better for most players that play mostly rhythm as opposed to the JB. This is due to the SH-6 being alot tighter on the bottom end than the JB. Its a great choice for a LP if you play mostly distorted stuff.

The SH-6 overall bass/mid/treble balance is more even as well.
