SH1B 59 + SSL-1 + SSL-1 for MIM Fender Strat?

Hi there.

I am a complete amateur, so please forgive my question and don´t kill me with complicated answers... ;)

I bought a new MIM Fender Strat (Black Paisley) with HSS pickup configuration and want to change the stock pickups for some vintage-type SDs.

How do you think the above mentioned combination would sound in it?

AND THE MAIN QUESTION: will those pups fit in that Strat technically? I mean the wiring and stuff like that....

Or would you recommend me some other vintage HSS combos that would both sound good and fit the MIM Strat also technically?

Thank you in advance for your answers.

....here is the pickup switching of that particular Strat:
Position 1. Bridge Pickup, Position 2. Front Coil of Bridge Pickup and Middle Pickup, Position 3. Middle Pickup, Position 4. Middle/Neck Pickups, Position 5. Neck Pickup
....I´ve noticed that "front coil of bridge p.u. - what doest that mean? Does the bridge p.u. have to be like 4-conductor? Or is 2-conductor OK, too?

Re: SH1B 59 + SSL-1 + SSL-1 for MIM Fender Strat?

It a proven combination. You can't go wrong.

The pickup switching is "auto split". Or in position 2 it splits one of the Hber coils so it gives almost the same sound as position 2 on a SSS strat, but you have the full Hber tone in position 1. If you go to the schematic diagrams pages you can find a diagram on how to auto split a Duncan Hber along with the SSL1s

On edit: With the 59 you can just keep the 250k pots (control knobs) across the board as it will work fine with either 500k or 250k pots and the true single coils like 250k.

That pickup combo will do fine. They will fit. Get a trem spaced (it will say TB before the number) pickup and a four conductor if you plan on splitting the coils.

Re: SH1B 59 + SSL-1 + SSL-1 for MIM Fender Strat?

Is the 4-conductor version also necessary for the "auto split" switching? Because I do not plan to split the pickup manually with a push-pull pot or anything....

Re: SH1B 59 + SSL-1 + SSL-1 for MIM Fender Strat?

And what about combinig the SSL-1s with the TB16 Custom 59 humbucker? I´m not speculating, I´m just asking because here where I live it´s much easier to get a 4-conductor version of the TB16 Custom 59-pickup, than a 4-conductor vesrion od the SH1B 59....

Isn´t the output of the TB16 Custom 59 too high to be combined with the low-output SSL-1s?

The Custom/59 hybrid is also a good option. It won't be too hot for a strat bridge. It's one coil from a 59 and one coil from a Custom. You want to split to the Custom coil in this case because the Custom coil has more output. Yes, you do need 4 conductor to auto split.

Thank you, sir! Looks like now I have my combo of choice! ;)

IMO, If you're going for a strat bridge p/up to match with ssl's, maybe think about going for a p-rails; it will balance much better IMO than a low output PAF will, IMO.
