SH4 Quiet Pole

Hey, just doing a guitar project and fitted an SH4 humbucker. When I tap the top of each pole it makes a buzz but one of the poles (for the A string) hardly makes a sound compared to the rest. Is this an issue?

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Welcome to the forum!

Is it a slug or screw that doesn't make a sound? It's very unusual for a humbucker to do that because the poles aren't individually magnetized like in a Fender type.

right. there is a single magnet for the whole pup, and if its touching the other poles, im not sure how it wouldnt be touching that one. when you say touching and buzzing, you mean with your hand or are you tapping on the pole with something?

Thanks for the welcome and responses! My first guitar project and it was going well up to this point. I’ve tried both the head of a screwdriver and just with my finger. It just seems unusual as the other 5 screws (the bits on top) make a noticeable sound apart from that one.

I had watched a YouTube video on how to install it and tapping the top of each screw was one of the checks to make sure it was working ok but he didn’t say what to do if one didn’t make a sound.

ive never seen this before. the way a humbucker works is there are two coils of wire, one magnet, if some pole pieces on a coil work, then they all should. it is possible that a screw was swapped for something non-magnetic but i cant imagine how or why that would happen.

there are two poles for each string, a screw and a stud. which isnt making noise?
