SH6 in Basswood?

Hey All,

This is my first post here, however, I have read many many posts concerning the Duncan Distortion SH6 bridge pup on this forum. I have an EVO pup in the bridge of my Schecter Omen 006 that sucks ass!! I've been reading up on the SH6 and love everything I've read so far.

The one question that I cannot find an answer to is how the SH6 sounds in a Basswood body? Can anyone help a noob out here with that? Like I was saying, I have an EVO bridge pup, that thing is on it's way out so if anyone wants to buy one it's in perfect cond, I would be willing to trade it for a used SH6. If anyone has a used SH6 they'd like to sell or if you're intesrested in the EVO PM me.

Thanks!

Welcome to the FOrums! What do you not like about the EVo? That will help in making a decision.
The Sh-6 will sound good in it I think. Basswood has some good warmth and will mix well with the distortion. The mids and bass will fill it up nicely.
Welcome!

I'm interested in this too, iI have a duncan performer buck shot bridge pickup which is "based on" the sh-6 and i just bought a squier 51 which has a basswood body and I was wondering if it would be worth the effort to install it.

Thanks for the reply and the welcoming me to the forum, I appreciate it!

Well I don't like the EVO bridge pickup because it lacks any liveliness and it's just dead, cold and unresponisive. I can't pull off any harmonics without REALLY digging in, even natural harmonics are hard to get:smack: It just sounds so flat and notes are thin and without character. Don't take this the wrong way cause I love Vai's playing and the tones that he gets, however, it seems to me that Vai designed the EVO to take the signal from his rig and reproduce it exactly without the pickup making any changes to it AT ALL, just my opinion there.

I've heard the clip of the Duncan Distortion bridge pup on SD's site and I just flat out LOVE IT,ear candy!! It sounds sooooo alive, chunky and chords have a very powerful impact and from the sounds of it and from what I've read, it seems to me that harmonics just pop off the fretboard and scream with effortless attack. I won't be using the DD for anything I play clean I use the neck pup for that. I've read that EVH used the DD and George Lynch used it before he got his Screamin Demon sig model and I love both of those guys tones.

I want a pickup that is interactive and makes my guitar FEEL what I'm throwing at it :fingersx: if that makes any sense:)

Also, the Schecter Omen 006 that I own was made in the early 90's and is not like the ones that Schecter is producing now, although mine is made of Basswood too. The differences between the model I have and the current Omen 006's is: mine has Grover tuners not the Diamond ones, thicker in the neck radius, the body is sculpted alittle bit differently and instead of string-through mine has an original Tone Pro's stop-tail piece. I've compared my guitar to my friends Omen 006 and mine weighs quite a bit more and has more of a quality feel to it.

BTW, I play mostly Metal and Blues and a bit of the Yngwie:) Neo-Classical style.

I hope this was'nt too long of a post for ya, sorry if it was, I just wanted to give you as much info as I could so you would have an educated point of reference to help me.

Thanks again:)

Re: SH6 in Basswood?

I installed a Mayhem set, (pair of Distortions), in my buddy's Omen 6 last month. We both love it. The tone definitely screams "rock", but it still has a good clean sound also. Its not a "bright" clean, just a ballsy one.

Re: SH6 in Basswood?

Although I don't have a SH-6 in any of my active axes I've used them in both positions and the balls out chunk they give me is always puts a smile on my face when I come back to one

Re: SH6 in Basswood?

The SH-6 works well in the Omen 6 and I have one of the early ones too prior to the Diamond series hardware and string through body design. I agree it sounds like a much better Omen 6 than the newer ones, I also have a newer one and can hear the difference. The newer one I have EMG 81/85 and it's great for what it is. The one with the DD I have with a 59b/Jazzb hybrid in the neck and it is awesome! I went out of my way to get a TB-6 as the poles line up better and I am particular about those things.

Hey Ghostrider! Welcome to the forum! I was wondering if you were a Jason Becker fan.
