Re: Shawn Lane....well hehe
I've got all his albums barring "Centrifugal Funk" with Gambale & Garsed.
1 of my biggest inspirations for sure.
"Good People in Times of Evil" & the follow up "Icon" are great at mixing eastern & western music.
I'm a huge fan of John McLaughlin's Shakti & i'd put those 2 albums up with Shakti IAH.
Great player, VERY under-rated as a song writer.
"Personae", "Temporal Analogues of Paradise", "Time is the Enemy" (get the re-issued version if anyone is looking to buy it- much better mixing), "Abstract Logic", "Zen House" & his 2 solo albums- "Powers of Ten" (try to get a used copy of the original release) & "The Tri-Tone Fascination" (try to get the 1st US pressing 2nd hand, it hase 2 extra tracks- "Hardcase" & "Nine=101" on it) are ALL great.
He's up there with McLaughlin, Holdsworth, Henderson & Greg Howe for high-level consistency of output.
What a guitar player!
EDIT- And also, try to get your hands on the Jens Johannson album "Fission" (where Shawn Lane and Mike Stern appear on) & Michael Shrieve's Two Doors album "In The Palace of Dreams" (Shawn is on the first 8 tracks as is Jonas Hellborg. Bill Frissell is on the final 11 tracks).
