SHH - any experiences?

I have one of those old Hiram Bullock Cort Strats that I have been modding...the pick-ups are now neck a bridge version Phat Cat - middle is a reverse wound Alnico II™ Pro - and the bridge is another bridge Phat Cat. The guys at Seymour suggested that I get the reverse wound middle as that would give me the out of phase stuff - but get two bridge pups so that works (same polarity pups).

But I'm thinking I'd still like that neck Strat tone....who doesn't like that....and with an Alnico II™ Pro? So my thinking is, adapt a plate to SHH and switch the neck and middle pups - which gives me the single in the neck and the Phat Cat in the weaker middle position (its way powerful and deep in the neck esp as its really a bridge pup). I'd keep the wiring the same so I don't get two Phat Cats in any position.

Any thoughts about SHH configs - there are very few guitars with two HBs and a neck S - but you do see them occasionally with session players. I'm thinking this is a bit like a Les Paul sound with a Start Neck sound in the switch?

I always thought the first position in a pickup reference meant the bridge pickup? As in HSS meaning a humbucker bridge with 2 singles in the middle and neck.

I have seen this changed to start with the neck pickup.

When did this change?
Have I been wrong this whole time?

I always have understood it just like you do.
HSS is a bridge bucker.

I always dug the look of those Cort guitars. I don't think they were popular, but I remember the ads.

I've got doubts about using the Bridge phat cat in the middle as its going to be pretty thick, and less cutting than the same pickup in the bridge position. I'm also concerned its irreversible for your guitar once you modify the pickguard.

It may be a better idea to install a set of new humbuckers and keep the HSH configuration, as it will be very versatile with the right pickups.
