Should Duncan bolts be phillips instead of slotted?

I've always wished that Duncan humbuckers came with phillips head bolts, rather than slotted. Most stock OEM bolts are phillips, so is it a patent issue, or is there another reason why they'd be opposite?

I always feel like my miniscrewdriver is going to slide off and nick the finish or scratch the pickup ring. Anyhow :rolleyes: :question: :smack:

I have wondered why they have been using those flatheads for a long time. They suck!!!!! Phillips rule!!!!!!!

I have always wondered why they were flat headed screws, Makes no sense. I was alway worried I'de accidentally slip and gouge a coil, Philips would help get rid of that concern.

We should start a petition to get Philips head screws as standard with duncans. I mean, how much trouble could it really be for them to change? Just a few phone calls to whoever they buy bulk screws from.

I always wondered about that too.

Maybe its a mojo thing? Did early les pauls use slot-head screws instead of phillips? Not too hard to imagine after hearing evan talk about the legnths they take to replicate the orignal PAFs.

Or maybe they just got stuck with the wrong shipment? :laugh2:

i think phillips heads would look weird as hell on a pickup. not to mention i dont really screw (no pun intended) with the screws so it wouldnt make a difference to me

We're not talking about the adjustable pole pieces, we mean the humbucker mounting screws. The pole pieces should stay flathead, IMO.

Whats interesting too is, in the Seymour Q&A's, they tell who invented the Phillips screw, but not the flat head.

I always just change mine.

Also just switch them out, but I have to admit I´d find Phillips screws (ideally w/ a choice of black or chrome) cooler ;)

Also under the aspect of "I can adjust a phillips with a slotted screwdriver if I have to, but with a slot and a philips driver I´m boned" ;)

I must be the only guy who's alright with them. I find that phillips head screws strip out too easily. I say good job Seymour, you read my mind!

I have no problem with 'em, I can see why Philips could/should be easier, but so far so good...

You should not have issues with stripping a phillips head for pickup mounting screws... you'll never need to turn them that tight.

The slotted screws have always been a pain for me... but I just either reuse the stock phillips from the axe or go to the hardware store and buy the appropriate phillips head machine screw (I never can remember the thread count, either).

I also hate the slotted screws because of the possibility of slipping and scratching the finish or pickguard...

I thought they were slotted so you could adjust them with a pick.

I dunno what kind of pick you use (metal?), but generally anything above 1mm won´t fit, and anything thinner tends to get knackered by the screw head ;)

i am pro phillips if they cost the same. maybe slotted is cheaper, but i am fine with that too.

I thought the comment on the screw heads was about the pup height adjustment screws, which are slotted on the APH-1 and Phillips on the Dime, that's why I'd use a pick on the slotted screws for a quick adjustment.

Trying to use a screwdriver on the slotted height adjustment screws while finding the pups sweet spot is a disaster in the making. I don't suggest using a pick for adjusting the screw coil screws. :smack: :laugh2:
