should i buy a telecaster?

Re: should i buy a telecaster?

Well, If you don't have a Bigsby or a vibrato, I bet you can't do the dive bomb with your Tele.

Why on earth would you want to do a divebomb? :D

I think what was meant is that a tele can cover any and every style under the sun. While that's true, it doesn't mean it's always the best tool for every job. So, if you really feel the need to do vibratos with a trem, dips, or even dives, it is possible (though very highly frowned upon) to disgrace a tele with a Floyd. :smack:

For me, a little wiggle of the left hand is usually all the vibtarto I ever need, and that, my friend, is easily done on a tele.

Re: should i buy a telecaster?

Went out and played a few teles yesterday. And I must say my overal opinion has changed somewhat. Plugged into a peavey classic 30, those guitar(MIM standard and Lite Ash) worked on every song I played. Put on a little reverb, you got Wild Horses. Little bit of gain, ZZ top on it. Broke out the lite ash and jammed on GNR. Im definatly gonna have to get one. And those alnico 2's! awesome.

Re: should i buy a telecaster?

Didn't Albert use a custom painted Warmoth Tele for years?

I think he mentioned one was a copy on that tape, but I don't
remember warmoth being mentioned. That wouldn't surprise me though. Man, I can only imagine how cool a 3 p-90 albert lee model is! So much cool stuff out there, so little cash.:yell:

Re: should i buy a telecaster?

The Tele is the most badass of all guitars. I can do anything i want with it just using the bridge pickup alone. If you spend enough time with one to figure out how to use it correctly, I don't think theres a better guitar out there. But, i will admit, they are a battle to play, but I enjoy that type of thing, makes guitar playing more fun when you gotta work to make a guitar sound the way you want. :D .....no low tension flubby string Les Pauls for me.....hehe

so would you say that the lite ash is worth the extra bucks compared to the MIM?

And i thought no-one had done a dive bomb since the 80's.....

When i've got some spare cash i'd love to Warmoth myself a good tele, i'd like to have one painted just as my Warmoth strat with some different pickup options.

They aren't if you use 9's.

I've had my tele's frets leveled and the action is as low as on my kramer.

Ya that 3 p90 Albert Lee model is something to see and hear!!! thru a Bassman reissue he was getting some serious tone.... I am pretty sure his old Tele with the Flames on it was a Warmoth..

My stock 1999 MIM Tele Standard into a Peavey Classic 30 is my exact main rig these days.... i pretty much take that to jams more often then any of my other guitars and amps....

Well, since Erik said the Tele can do anything, I just point out that there is something a Tele can't do. Also the hand vibrato is nowhere near a dive bomb because you can't do all six strings at once to go down a semi-tone and then back up a whole tone. doing one string with a tuner is only a downward bend of a string as to my concern. I sometimes even grab the headstock and bend the notes when playing, Oh! I bet the Tele can't stand on its head by itself neither. Just kidding! I love my Tele, and I also love all my other guitars. They all have their own places in my book.
