Should I keep this?

I bought a Vox Pathfinder on GCs used part of the site. I paid $60 + $15 shipping/tax. $75.

It got here and the tremolo doesn't work on it and the speaker was changed to a 10" Jensen at some point (they all had either 6" or 8"). When I turned it on I got this really bad whirring and farting noise... it happened whenever there was excessive bass/volume/drive. I checked the speaker and there is a tear in the side of it.

The thing is that I plugged it in to my Framus 412 and it sounded pretty damn good. I have read that these were some of the best small solid state amps and they really are good sounding amps.

I don't use many effects and don't really use trem at all so it is not a huge loss and the speaker could be replaced easily by a weber signature series.... Do you think I should return it, ask for a partial refund, or just keep it?

I like the amp but it is not the greatest thing ever, and even through the 412 it is not as loud as I'd like it to be. I mean, it is loud but it breaks up relatively easily and I play pretty clean. It sounds good but it wouldn't be useful to me for much more than bedroom playing. I will be moving into an apartment next summer so maybe it would be useful for that but I don't know..... that, along with all the problems makes me think I should just return it. What do you think? I know it is only $75 but is it worth it?

The only thing that sucks is that they want me to take it to my nearest GC which would end up wasting about 4 hours of my time. I know it seems like I am being lazy or something but I have been really busy lately and haven't had much time for anything......

WWYD?

Re: Should I keep this?

well, whats going to make you happy? I have a Pathfinder with a broke speaker but I'm not letting it go and thats because I remember how great it sounded when it was good. Before too long I will replace that speaker with an even better speaker and I'll be back in the gravy. If you really wanted a bigger amp get a bigger amp. But pound for pound there's nothing like the 15R in my opinion. .

I have a bigger amp... I don't know why I was mentioning that... I guess I just was hoping for more cleans from it as it's what I use a lot... it is a pretty dynamic amp for being ss. I was pretty impressed. It cleans up better than some tube amps I have had....

Re: Should I keep this?

What happened to your JCA, Andrew? You really ought to stick with it! Of all the amps I've had in 3 or 4 decades, the 22H is my best...next to my 5150 II. Since I don't have the place to use the Peavey, that leaves the JCA and I've stopped gassing. JMNSHO. -Rod-

Re: Should I keep this?

Heck yeah, return it. You should just go for $60 credit, which buffers the cost of another purchase later. It's a cheap little amp with a problem. For a few bucks more, you could score a better used amp from their site.

+1. Not like you got the only one left in the country.
