should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

No, its a metric bridge.

The serial number is one used MANY time for the fakers.
They usually don't have nibs, although one or two have been popping up here and there with them.
The logo is incorrect and in the wrong place
Headstock is the wrong size and shape
Knobs in the wrong place and in the wrong pattern

This is bread and butter stuff for MLP.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

I'm pretty sure the seller knows it's a fake, that's why he's asking for $3,000 bucks!

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

A Transparent Black Supreme is relatively rare.

Interesting... a guy i know who plays in a local band has one in Trans Black.

And it looks WAY nicer than whatever that axe is in the OP. That thing just looks... off. That seam is really what's bothering me. The inlays and the flame on the top don't have the depth or the clarity of the real thing.

I'm calling fake.

It's not a matter of whether or not it's fake, it IS fake!

I also love:

"Notice that there are no back plates? That's because the electronics were configured through the extra large jack plate"

Shows no pictures of back or jack plate. I realize the (real) supreme's are like this, but if your going to mention it, show it.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

yeah, it's like alexr said, this is 100% fake.

google the serial number. chinese knock offs don't have unique serial numbers, they use the same one. this is the serial they use.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

Mkaaaay so whos gonna contact this guy? :D

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

I guess selling counterfeit goods is illegal, so... contact the cops.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

I am the furthest thing from a Gibson fan and thus, know almost next to nothing but even I, after a very quick look-over, noticed the elongated headstock (although I couldn't quite put my finger on it until I saw the original Gibson Supreme headstock side by side), the seam in the middle, best case scenario, if it was indeed original that would mean it was damaged somehow from the two pieces of the top shifting apart thus it definitely cannot be called "as new", speaking of as new he mentions there have been NO modifications and that it is 100% stock and specifically states 490 and 498 yet there's an SD in the bridge, clear as day (no covers either, I don't remember Gibson not covering their high-end LPs) and, wait for it, he mentions the gorgeous figured back and yet THERE IS NO PICTURE OF THE BACK.

Even an exceedingly good-natured person would be hard pressed not to admit that there are several things wrong with that ad.

Either contact his local craigslist or if you're feeling really vengeful, the local authorities.
I too agree with the crowd that thinks contacting him would only tip him off that he's been found out, best case scenario he will remove the ad only to try and move it some other way, I don't believe there's a chance of saving him from "unknowingly" moving a counterfeit item nor of sparing the poor sap with more money than knowledge that will buy it.

EDIT: I think the Richlite Fretboard was a nice touch, most counterfeiters would be tempted to just call it Ebony. He must have copy-and-pasted the specs from somewhere else, that would also explain the pickups blunder.
EDIT2: Ok, just for fun I googled the number "02005556" with no additional search parameters, just the numbers. Google's top four results were pages mentioning how to spot counterfeit Gibsons, one went as far as mentioning the number as "02005556 Confirmed Clone Les Paul Custom Embossed". I must admit that I found that pretty funny...

He's just cut and pasted from the Gibson website...hence the Richlite (and the pickups of course). This has been what Gibson has used since 2012 except for perhaps the Reissues of 50's customs.

If the serial number was actually real (and the guitar for that matter) it would have been ebony of course.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

I say we copy/paste the link to this thread and just send it to him via email. No way to like, flag his post or something is there? Since it is clearly misleading and a scam (or the owner is completely oblivious, either way.)?

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

I looked briefly for some way to report Craigslist scams, and I can't find anything that doesn't look like a joke, so for the sake of Google search results, should anyone try to research this listing http://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/msg/4701639878.html for a "Gibson Les Paul Supreme Trans Black Flametop & Back - $3000" before buying it; the seller's name is Boris, lists a phone number as 5168129339, whose location is purportedly "630 rockaway turnpike", and this guitar IS DEFINITELY A FAKE.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

i emailed him as a potential buyer a few days ago asking for more pics but got no response. maybe hes wary of being called out, or maybe he already sold it. i can't believe craigslist doesn't have a way to report bogus items like this. i "flagged" the listing, but it didn't allow me to explain the issues, so to a non guitarist it doesnt look suspicious. it definitely sucks, so buyers beware out there.

Re: should i send a message to the seller that his guitar is a

They should institute a flagging system similar to Facebook, so you can tell them exactly why you flagged the item in question.
