Should I try a Super Distortion?

I want many people to answer and say "YES"

TLDR: What can I expect from swapping a PAF Pro to a Super Distortion in the bridge of an SG?

The PAF Pro I ordered for the neck position of the SG didn't work for me. But I can still exchange it for another pickup for the next couple of weeks. I'm (knock on wood) surprisingly happy with all of my pickups now. But the Super Distortion is such a curiosity and what do I have to lose besides the time to install and re-string? The guitar is already wired for coil split and 50s wiring as well.

Before even reading your post my advice was “yes.”
:D

I’ve got 3 guitars with super D in the bridge, and I really like it.
it was probably appropriately named in’72, but it’s not the fire-breather that it’s name suggests. It’s loud and powerful, for sure. You see people saying that it’s bassy, high-endy, mid-focused; and they’re all correct.

in my Les Paul it replaced a 59/custom hybrid. I was really pretty happy with that pickup, but the Super just kicked it up a notch. At any given gig I play through a classic 50 with no pedals. So the hybrid would get me a great rhythm or lead sound, but the super added a little bit of balls to it. And it balances fine volume-wise with the Duncan 59 in the neck.

It's a fun pickup. I liked the sound in my SG, but it wasn't really what I was going for in that guitar. I have a Custom Custom there now and prefer it, but it's a matter of preference more than quality. I'm going to swap an a8 in there the next time I change strings.

I have the Super D in an Epiphone Special right now and have been playing it a lot. It has a thick midrange and good high end cut without getting shrill. It's a lot more versatile than the name would suggest. It sounds "big" for lack of a better term.

The Super D coil split sound kind of sucks IMO, while it's also a matter of preference, I suspect most people would prefer the Custom Custom split.

I don't know if it would be your ideal pickup, but since you can exchange the PAF Pro, it's worth a shot. Go for it!

Go for it the SD in any flavor is a win.

Everyone should try a SuperDistortion period. It's like a TS9. It just works. Get it. Should have already had it and said 'Hey - I decided to try a Super Distortion" instead of their BS thread.

I've tried Super D's. My buddy put one in a plywood SG copy that he got from a police auction back in the early 80's. The thing screamed after that. But I don't have one in any of my guitars now.
My Ibanez V is the only guitar that I have with Dimarzios in it. D-Activator neck and Crunchlab bridge with the bar towards the bridge. A match made in the depths of brutal Hell.
