I just assembled one of these for Travis, and he was gracious enough to let me hold on to it for awhile. While I would not call it the Holy Grail of pups, it is darn nice. Apparently, a few other folks agree.

So . . . should SD make this part of their regular production lineup, like they did with the Custom 5? The beauty of this design is nothing new need be done, save for grabbing a coil from the 59 tray as they assemble a Custom 5.

Seems like a no-brainer to me, but then again, marketing was never my forte. :)

I don't think so. Its a nice pickup to be sure but you can only maintain so many products in a given market size.

I think it violates a Dimarzio patent. The Custom/59 is the best bucker I have yet to play through.

I agree with that basic idea. The only thing that would sway me against that, is that in this case, nothing new need be done. Just grab a 59 coil off the shelf during assembly. But it is a close call.

Perhaps, a shop floor custom?

Edit: Added the quote since me and Bill posted at the same time.

Mismatched coils dude... I don't think they're allowed to outside of Custom Shop.

Re: Should SD introduce the Custom/59 hybrid in their standard lineup?

But isnt the PG slightly mismatched?

Since you and Bill have brought this up, its ringing a little bell in the back of my head that this has already been discussed once before. :smack:

I don't think there'd be enough of a customer base for this. Even the C5 is somewhat of a niche pickup.

Re: Should SD introduce the Custom/59 hybrid in their standard lineup?

yeah theyre probably wont be enough of a customer base, i agree with benjy, although i do want to try it out one day myself.

Is the Custom/59 hybrid the 10K PAF of 2006?

It would have to be the 11.25k PAF... I believe it does violate DiMarzio's patents

Actually it's 11.5K......lol:nana: This pickup is pretty hard to top with anything else I've tryed guys! Haven't tryed the Brobucker yet,but I'd bet it'd be close or the Hybrid will still edge it out?

I bought the BB because I know it's a collectable piece for my collection...

I wonder....How does Dimarzio even know what Seymour is doing?

Re: Should SD introduce the Custom/59 hybrid in their standard lineup?

Yeah, and just call it the "Fair Warning"...I wonder if the VH camp would get pissed over that?? :D

Mine is supposed to measure 10.9, I didn't build it though...and I have never measured it. It IS a killer pickup, though. Especially for us Eddie fanatics.

does it sound more like early VH or 1984?

Re: Should SD introduce the Custom/59 hybrid in their standard lineup?

I voted yes but, will they? Probally not in a million years! #1 reason, it has mismatched and Dimarzio has the patent on them and reason #2, its not a mega distortion pickup and its not a vintage pickup! OMG, cant make anything in between!!!
