Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

This. Seriously.

I believe you. I remember jamming on a 335 through a 6505. Pretty damn heavy sounding.

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

I'd just play my LTD Alexi-600 w/ Full Shred into my Peavey XXX.

The guitar is in B already. I can always throw in my OD-9 if needed.

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

I'm aware the price of Damien...and there's a Meshuggah M8 on ebay...
If it works it works.
The M8 is just too expensive. Think you're just paying for the famous name "Meshuggah" on that one. Writing the word "Meshuggah" on the guitar doesnt change the way it sounds or plays.

I'm leaning toward the Hellraiser C8 at the moment.
The Jackson Custom 7 is about $3500 if you can find one.
The PRS 7 is made in Korea and yields an affordable price.

And No ..I don't like cheap shiot....but if it works it works. That's still important.

I don't care the price really..if its got the right stuff...I'm interested...

The Meshuggah M8 is a totally different instrument than the RG 8 strings. It has a much longer scale length, different pickups, and different woods. Add the fact that it is a hand made model and not a production model and you have something that plays and sounds much different.

That all being said, I got my hands on an Ibanez RG 8 string this last summer at Sweetwater's Gearfest. I think the description of "8 string necks feel like skateboards" is fairly accurate minus the trucks. The Ibanez 7 string necks still feel like guitar necks to me, albeit the 7th string is a change, but not an uncomfortable one.

Anyhow, the Meshuggah m8 is a different instrument. It is a unique niche instrument. The upper registers still resemble guitar, but the overall instrument reminds me of a Chapman stick influence.

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

It's actually a great pedal for early 90's DM sounds, until you stop playing, yikes. Gotta have a noise gate with that one, regardless of settings.

The HM-2 is kinda the same way, but you can drop the level and the high and it gets more controllable.

My favorite "death metal" sounds have always been HM-2 set to swedish chainsaw, and Bill Steer on Necroticism. If I remember right, that was an RG with a Super3 into a Guvernor (I think, some Marshall pedal), into an SL-X and some practice amp, lol. The 5150 didn't come until Heartwork, I like that sound too, but for some reason I prefer the nastier sound on Necroticism.

I just checked out the bogner red ecstasy and the bogner uberschall pedals...I like the uberschall better....but neither one is bad enough for me.
Rats!

Ill get my tone from the amp then.

While I'm not disagreeing with the fact it's way too expensive, it costs that much because it's the same level as an LACS: it's made by the Artist custom shop, which regular customers don't have access to, other than second-hand.

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

With Alnico V's and a D.C. resistance of 9.1 kohms, this puts out a pretty good death metal sound.

^^^

Wow. For some reason I am in love with that guitar.... drool...

Thanks bro! This guitar is awesome and the sound from this rings like a bell. It's a bit on the heavy side, between 9 - 10 lbs. I have a hard time finding this particular variation of the RGX on the internet. Here's a photo I got from the MLP forum of another RGX that belonged to a member's ex-wife. I think he is on this forum also (formula 73). The RGX Custom only came in 2 colours. This purple is real sweet!

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

That's a nice color!

I ended up ordering an Ibanez RG8.... not expensive. Its actualy a 27 inch scale which maes it a baritone axe..strange they don't use the word baritone in the marketing..and I already have a 27 inch scale baritone LP...so I decided not to get a really expensive make and I hear that the neck is like a skateboard which I probably won't like. But if I do like the axe itself I probably will have to upgrade the pups.

I might eventually decide on a very nice 7 string axe with a 26.5 inch scale.

As for the OKKO Dominator pedal..I did find one and order it, and it will arrive tomorrow.

As for the DAR amp... the waiting list is backed up until next August. I can get by with the OKKO Dominator until then...and I'm not cancelling my order.

B.C. Rich USA Warlock NT standard with Duncan Distortion bridge and Alnico II Pro neck
Dunlop Crybaby Q-zone wah pedal
Mesa/Boogie Triaxis preamp
TC Electronic G-major effects
Mesa/Boogie 2:Ninety power amp
Crate GS412s cabinet with Celestion 80 watt speakers
Rocktron MIDImate control pedal

And my backup guitar is a B.C. Rich Virgin loaded with an EMG 81/85 set wired for 18 volts...

Granted, it's not in the 7-8 string territory; C is about as low as I go with a 6 string guitar. I can get some decent 90s - 2000s death metal sounds out of that rig. It works for me.

Seymour Duncan's facebook page shared this earlier.

Pretty cool.

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

5150 + EMGs is the simplest solution. Preferably an 85 or a 707 in the bridge. I currently use a THD Univalve with either a 6550 or KT88 and a 4*12 with V30s. I've used many different amps too. Vox AC15 sounded good with a good dirt pedal, for example.

Btw, Trey of Morbid Angel has used a seven string guitar and used one last saturday when I saw them. An Ibanez Universe, I suppose.

Re: Show me....Your Ultimate Death Metal Rig !

If you like Ibanez, then they do the RGD (for Down-tuned) 26.5 scale 6and 7 string rgs in Indonesian and Japanese varieties.
