What? That was my best air bass! You couldn't see it? :18:
I fixed the post and attached the pic. It was my first time attaching a photo with the new SD forum website. I didn't quite get the drag & drop feature right. Now I know. Thanks for letting me know it didn't work because it showed up fine on my computer. Weird!
My Spector NS-2A? I've been in contact with PJ Rubal at Spector, and a few other individuals who know Spectors and nobody seems to know exactly what model this is, what year it was made, and whether it is completely original. It looks like an "old" Brooklyn-era NS-2 in some ways but also has a few Kramer-era traits. NOTE the HI-A pickups (early Bartolinis made for the Japanese market) and the strange control cavity cover and (especially) the shape of the cover. Anyhow, this thing plays like butter and sounds like a high-tech freight train driven by hippies.
Just put this one back together. It was a pretty ratty Squier that played and sounded good enough so I figured I'd keep it. It had a broken peg, the crap stock pickup and a horrible paint job. I don't think the frets and board had been cleaned in a decade. So I sanded it down and fixed a few issues with some large dings, I didn't go crazy since I was doing a low sheen lime green hot rod/rat rod finish. I swapped in a Duncan Designed P-Bass pickup that was kicking around in the band parts bin and swapped on a better set of tuners and some chrome knobs we had as well. Scraped down the fret board, polished the frets and sanded the finish down on the neck. It plays pretty well after I did the set up and the thing sounds really good, those DD pups are pretty good from my experience so far. Slapped on a Mooneyes sticker and I am waiting on a Rat Fink decal set to finish it off, oh still need straplock pins too.
The truss rod cover is not on, but that is a Rickenbacker 4001 I have had since 1985 when people were selling them for $400 so they could buy Jackson Concert basses. The Jackon Concert EX on the far right now has a Dimarzio Split P/Ultra Jazz set, which sound fantastic. The Peavey was a surprise. I didn't expect much from it, but when I plugged it in one day I was amazed at the classic P bass tone. It plays great too. The owner, a friend of mine, eventually sold it to me.
New in 2012 are the Ibanez Gary Willis fretless and the Hamer Monaco bass.
A closeup of that Alembic/Modulus "BassStar" bass.
