Re: Sight reading help?
I find being able to recognize rhythmic patterns (cells) in small steps is a great way to build up your sight reading skills.
I am not familiar with the book that FrankAxtell suggests, I would also suggest a book along those lines. If I can find the books I've used (which have helped me), I will post the titles.
Also, I find it helps to rid yourself of tabs for a while. Get a book of jazz standards, and learn to play the standard melodies for songs like Softly in a Morning Sunrise, Autumn Leaves, and a couple of other standards. Even if you aren't sight reading initially, I find the act of learning from sheet music rather than tab is a fundamental step in the right direction.
