Re: signature guitars- rip off?
Anyone out there in guitarland...
Name an artist with a signature guitar, that made their name with their own "signature guitar"!
Heh heh, I'm not trying to be antagonistic...I'm actually curious! Buying an "signature guitar", like most guitars, is a better buy in the used market. If you like it, buy it!
I'm bored, so here is my signature Epi Iommi.
I actually modded it again, with a side jack, and mounted a 4-pole/triple throw large toggle switch. This allows std./split/parallel wiring. This part was possible, because Gibson USA claims only two wire pickups are installed in their guitars. The Iommi pickup is different, because the is filled with epoxy, making a two wire option more of a hassle at the time of production.
The extra two wires were merely soldered together, and shrunk-wrapped back against the outer insultaion sleeve.
I got it off a forum bro for $425 (local pickup). Not a bad deal overall. It may not be a real Gibson, but it has the foward thrust the SG body "has", and is not a bad deal considering lesser G-400's are still going for $300...without the demonic finish.
