Signature models.

Re: Signature models.

I've got a PRS Mike Mushok baritone. In my opinion it's the best baritone on the market right now, and it's at a great price point.

Re: Signature models.

Concerning the belief that playing a signature guitar on stage is somehow uncool, or ''poser'' ;

Snap back to reality. If you think that 95% of the people in the audience can tell it's a signature guitar, you are living in a dream world. Most people will see that you have different guitar shapes, but couldn't tell you which one is a telecaster, which one is a stratocaster and which one is a Les Paul. The 5 guitarists in the audience might, but that's about it. The truth is most concert goers don't give a flying **** about what you play on stage, as long as you can play, and they are having a good time.

So play your signature guitars if you like them. I don't have one, but I'd have no problem playing one. Do what makes you happy, put on a great show, and no one will care about anything else.

Re: Signature models.

Over the years I've owned quite a few different sig models and I never bought any of them because of the artist name on them. The Blues Saraceno samicks I bought were because I really like the body shape. The Robert Cray strat I got because they are killer stock hardtail strats. I just ordered a prs Nick Catanese model and I can't stand BLS I just really like the guitar specs. Play what you like

Re: Signature models.

Many sig guitars now are quality instruments period, not a junk Epiphone with some guys name on it like you used to expect.

I own a John Petrucci EBMM 6 string with piezo and it is no poseur guitar, it's about as versatile as you can find and quality is top notch.

EVH products are quality gear from his sig amp to his pedals, not to mention his EBMM's are now very sought after.

I heard the Bonamassa was a very nice Les Paul for a nice price.

Buy what you like and want, screw what anyone says.

Re: Signature models.

Yeah man...it's a free market economy.

If you can afford it, buy it, own it, love it.

There are a couple of exceptions in my opinion. I don't think anyone should play a Gibson Lucille (live)while B.B. King is still alive.

I think that if you (myself included) are going to play an Ibanez Jem live...you had better bring it with some authority. I saw a kat playing a white Jem at a church function and he was just strumming away at it like Taylor Swift's acoustic and $h!t and it just didn't work.

Pretty much anything that opening calls out the player it was made for, such as the Washburn N4 with the big giant N 4 right on the body.
eeeeeeeep.....just not gonna fly in certain places.

Then again, things change regionally. I've seen dudes in Northern New Jersey and New York City get mocked on stage for playing Jacksons instead of Les Pauls and I saw a dude get pegged in the head in Arizona for playing a Rickenbacker.

[shrugs]

You never know.

Rule of thumb....if you can pull it off...do it.

Re: Signature models.

I have a PRS SE Billy Martin, currently sporting a set of Black Winters.

I wired it up wrong though, so I haven't been playing it much. Once I get it fixed I'm gonna rock the **** out!

Let us know what you think of the Black Winters.

There are a couple of us in the thread but I feel like the unofficial poster child right now.

I love my set and I hope you get yours wired up really soon.

Enjoy.

Re: Signature models.

Les Paul and Strat Standards are just that, STANDARDS! Not signatures, and the majority play standards.

I mostly play telecasters, but modify everything I have to hell. My number 1 I built myself.

Wait . . . a Les Paul . . . isn't that a guy's name? Wouldn't that refer to the signature guitar model originally developed by . . . Les Paul for his guitar playing? So . . . isn't that standard a signature?

The Les Pauls in question have very little to do with Les Paul's main guitars except the basic construction.

Kinda like saying "I have a Jackson Adrian Smith Strat" when the person really has a stock MIM white strat.

Re: Signature models.

I have my Sterling JP70, the 7-string lowest end John Petrucci model. I've played the high end ones, and this one doesn't disappoint in the slightest. In its price point for a 7 string as well, the thing is absolutely killer. I can't say enough good things, you get the JP/MM profile, quality construction and decent materials for the price. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a 6 string, but I'll be buying the actual EBMM JP next. Maybe the 13, I'm not sure...

Other sigs I'd own? For posterity only, I'd own signature models of some of my heroes growing up. I'm a spritely 25, I grew up listening to punk and stuff, so I've always kinda wanted the Ibanez Noodles signature guitar that they did with the duct tape finish:

Re: Signature models.

How'd you wire it up? What is the setup/diagram?

I had a harness from another guitar that I was going to use, but when I compared it to the diagram it was different, but I soldered the pickups on anyway. Apparently my suspicions were right, and whoever made the harness did it different than the SD diagram shows. What I'm getting is little to no signal in the neck position, and WAY too warm of a sound out of the bridge position. It's like neck pickup warm. I know that's not how it's supposed to sound, so I'll probably redo the wiring altogether with my older brother. It's 2 humbuckers, 1 vol, 1 tone, 3 way switch.

If you'd like I could probably make a harness for you. Just tell me what type of 3 way switch it is. Right now it sounds like either:

a) The switch is wired wrong. The pickups could be wired to their opposite spots on the switch, yet something is shorting the bridge. This would explain the bridge position to be "warm", and no signal out of the other position.

b) For some reason one lead (the other lead is grounded) of the capacitor for the tone control has been wired wrong and is somehow permanently connected to the bridge pickup's hot shunting highs, and the neck pickup lead is attached loosely, or has a cold solder joint.

These are my two best guesses on the information you've given me.

Re: Signature models.

80s metal, Are those stryper models?? Only real sig models I have are (of course) Les Pauls, and I have 2 Wasburn MG130 Stevie Salas signature models. I didnt buy them cuz of Stevie, I bought them cuz the features and playability are awesome! I used to have an EPI Ace Frehley LP, but mine was a rare black flame top one. Didnt buy it cuz of Ace, again, loved the features and the look. I REALLY wish Id never sold that one.

Re: Signature models.

For me it would depend. I don't really own any signature gear, I did deck my MIM Strat out to look like David Gilmour's black Strat. But if it was covered in someone's custom graphics (Dave Mustaine's Deans come to mind...) probably not. But at the same time I do like Mustaine's korina Vs and Zeros and if I saw one at the right price i'd consider it.

Re: Signature models.

Does anyone know the play/tone difference between the PRS Neal Schon 14 and 15? (PRS NS14 and NS15)?
I know the NS14 is slightly smaller but that doesn't tell too much more.
Thanks!
