Simple Amp, opinions wanted

Re: Simple Amp, opinions wanted

Tell her its a requirement once someone reaches 12,000 flushes... err.... posts. ;)

Goodness man, step away from your computer!

And I"m about halfway through with this "simple" amp. Initial options have been decided. 6 knobs (going to give Stratman his dwell on the reverb), 2 dip switches (a suprise), 2 inputs. NFB defeat on the back. 2, 4 and 8 ohms, dual outputs, impedance selector knob. Fuse for mains and B+. IEC power jack. Using a JTM45 chassis, controls flipped, will mount in a 1x12 that is coming my way. Controls on top, facing forward.

What wattage are you thinking?

You know what would be seriously cool, and totally unique? A STEREO tube amp! Tube pre-amp, fx send, stereo fx return, and a power amp that can either run stereo or parallel mono. Head or 2x12 combo.

And here's the kicker: have one side of the power amp run 6L6's, and the other side run EL34's! Or put a switchable bias on both, so the user can decide: all 6L6, all EL34, or half and half.

If you've ever heard someone play with two different amps, and how MASSIVE their tone is, you'll understand the appeal of something like this.

Sorry, just brainstorming.

Ehm, I´m fairly certain that what you´re suggesting (a stereo or bridgable power section that can run 6l6 and/or el34 power tubes) is exactly what Mesa has patented as "Simul-Class", and also used to great effect on the Simul-Class 2:90 power amp as well as the Mark series and Roadking.

The only difference is there´s no rack in this one ;)

Scary, ain't it? Especially considering two intentional :flush: and one unintentional :flush:
