Single bridge humbucker guitars?

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

I don’t have any pictures with me on my phone, but I have an old Charvell Model 88 with a Floyd and a J95 humbucker mounted in the bridge slot on an angle.

I also have an old First Act that my father in law “rescued” from the neighbor’s trash that I repainted and loaded a TV Jones Classic Plus in the bridge slot.

There are always the EVH models.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

I don't really get it. If you never touch the knobs, any guitar can operate in as simple a fashion as you want it to. Guess I prefer to have a variety of tones 'just in case.'

But what I really don't get is how most single pickup guitars will forego a tone control. In ways a single pickup guitar with a tone control is more amenable to me than a dual pickup guitar with only a vol. control. Yet most single pickup guitars are further constrained by the lack of knobs.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

I would just grab a used Fender Strat and slap a single-humbucker pickguard on there. I know, too easy...LOL.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

Slick guitars over at GFS has some options

You could always get a bullet and a single hum pickguard

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

There's always Warmoth ;)

...that being said, that Satin Black ESP Les Paul-ish guitar seems to be right up the El Diablo's alley!

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

Does Charvel still do a single HB?

Doing it Tom Delonge style is the easiest, just get a pickguard with the pickups and controls you want.

Plenty of 80's Charvels out there on the market–usually at great prices for the quality.

Looks like the Custom Shop makes some single humbucker guitars...the Pro Mod series have some with pickguards so getting a single humbucker pickguard would be another route to go.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

The Tom DeLonge Strat and Epiphone models are good candidates for single bridge humbucker experimentation.

Gibson had some runs of Melody Makers, in Les Paul, V, SG, and Explorer shapes, that also had single bridge humbuckers.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

EDIT: The the OP, sorry for my cooment, just reread your post and saw you're looking for new guitars... Still if you can find one of these, it may go well with the El Diablo.

I appreciate the info. It doesn't necessarily need to be new,

I agree. If whatever I end up with only has one knob, I'll make it a tone control. This Diablo is reacting really well with a .0047 cap. (Yes, two 0's.)

There's always Warmoth ;)

Yeah. That thing is slick. But economically, I think that redoing one of my old USA Predators makes the most sense.
Thanks everyone for all the good suggestions. Some nice axes posted here.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

Found another. Reverend Billy Corgan Terz. Not crazy about the 21 1/2" scale length, but it looks cool, and the 3rd knob could be replaced with a 4-way rotary to get series/parallel and split to either coil.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

The new Gibson Billie Joe Junior

Gibson CM and they did a humbucker Jr recently as well

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

There is also the Reverend Reeves Gabrel Dirtbike. But, it does have a trem.

Re: Single bridge humbucker guitars?

ESP is popping up a lot. :D

I like that. Hate the upside-down headstock. But that isn't a show stopper. And, it uses a mounting ring, which would hide the routing for the larger Diablo.

There's a lot of different headstocks over the 30-some years the ESP M-I has been sold

I once picked up one as a favor for a friend, alder body bolton,maple-maple neck and fendery bottle opener headstock. Turned out to be a 48th St NY with a 4-digit serial, all for 600 bucks... dang thing was super sweet. Richest tone ever, even with a frickin EMG.

Absolutely hated letting go of it.

I'm diggin' those Reverends.

There are only a couple of the Reverend styles that I like. The Sensei is the one that I really like. That Dirtbike I posted is basically a Sensei Jr. with a humbucker, trem and the 6 inline headstock.
The Sensei Jr. has a single P90 bridge pup. with tuneomatic and stop bar.
