Single Coil neck for metal

Hey guys,
I have no idea about stacked single coils like the hot rails pup or the series of 'Lil' pickups.
Can some one advise me on what to get to get a really smooth and fat neck tone? It doenst even need to be and SD pup.

I love michael ammotts tone from arch enemy, as a reference point.

the hot rails aren't stacks, they use side by side coils like a normal humbucker does.

I dont think that really matters to what he was asking...
Hot Rails neck is a great pickup, it should do what you want.

i'd go with the hotrails for more of a nu-metal sound, or a quarterpounder for a more classic sound, and if he want's to keep it true single

I'm not an expert on Arch Enemy tone, but Amott's signature guitar has a full-sized 59 in the neck position. I have the Lil 59 in my Strat, and it is a little different from the full-sized version, but it's still a slammin pickup. I don't like my neck pickups to be too hot, but the moderate output with the ceramic magnet gives it perfect balance for clean strumming and heavily distorted leads.

For a Carcass like tone I'd have guessed a '59.

crazy idea:

the magnet in the lil 59 is ceramic IIRC

why not go for the alnico V 59 that the CS offers for a more true PAF sound from a strat sized bucker?

For smooth and fat I'd be reaching for a cool rails before the hot rails. The hot rails has an aggressive attack with a top end that can be "bitey" at times.

I only have the bridge versions, but one thing is that the ceramic in the minis really doesn't sound like a ceramic in a big hum. I find the little demon (with ceramic) to sound surprisingly close to the A5 big one. The little '59 is farther from the regular '59 than with the demons, but still the little one doesn't sound like a ceramic full size humbucker.

The hotrails (again, I only have the bridge) is more hi-fi and I guess it counts as "smoother". While I like the little demon I don't quite like the little '59. So my nod goes to a hotrail.

The DiMarzio Air Norton S is the best neck blade I've heard. It's a dead ringer for it's full sized brother.

Michael Ammots tonoe comes from his amp. Not his pickups so much. A buddy of mine has the same randall stack setup that Ammot uses, and i swear it's distortion made all 3 of my main guitars sound identical, and mind you they are three very different guitars, with very different pickups in each.

A hotrails in the neck is complete metal solo tone.

Hot rails cool rails neck are classic hot metal pups. I prefer the cool rails cause its a bit less bright i think.
I know Thodie despises the hot rails in the bridge, and I agree.
What I want to know is how a hot Strat pickup like the STK-S4 would sound in the neck for metal?
Best metal S/C size pickup is the Parallal axis I'd say, but it wont fit in some guitars without routing.
