Single Coil Red Wire?

Probably a really simple answer to this... So I'll be wiring up a HSH setup once I get my parts, the Single Coil is a Vintage Hot Stack which has 3 conductor wires (black, white and red for tapping). The setup I'm going for is essentially this image:



My question is, what do I do with the red cable from the Single Coil? Do I tape it up, ground it? Or can it be used in the push pull system somehow?

Yeah . . . you treat it like the red/white in a humbucker. If you don't care about tapping, then tape it up. Or, wire it to a push-pull, or similar, (switched to ground), and use it to get a more vintage, chimey sound from the single.

Edit: I just thought, are you sure you only have three wires? I'm thinking a Hot Stack should have the same four as a humbucker.

Ah, yes. I forgot that the old and new share the same name. Tape off the red wire.

It's my understanding that the red wire can be used to "split" the pup to the top coil only (not truly a "tap"). You'll gain some treble and clarity by splitting, but you'll lose the hum bucking.
