Single Coil Sized 'buckers for David Gilmour-esque Tone?

I know he uses EMG SA pickups, and they're active, but I was wondering if maybe there was a passive single coil sized humbucker that could do the job pretty well. Maybe even the Stag Mag bridge wired parallel in an H/S/S guitar? What about Hendrix's tone? I think it'd be neat to tie both of those guy's tone into one guitar. Does David use an alder body or ash body Strat? What about Jimi's Strat? Any help is greatly appreciated

Wait for the new Stack-Plus (STK-S4) to come out in about a month----shoudl be perfect. It is easily the best hum-canceling strat-sounding pickup we have ever made. You even get quack in positions 2 & 4. If you have a humbucker in the bridge position---then yes, a Stag Mag wired in parallel will work very well.

I'd been wondering how well the Stag Mag would work wired parallel, because everyone says that a split humbucker and a humbucker wired parallel sound very similar, but since the Stag Mag is so much different, I thought that maybe it wouldn't be quite the same as far as getting that Strat quack. Seems like it would, but since this pickup is the only one of it's kind, it's hard to know, especially since not many people in the forum use it, and the few that have used it have never tried it wired in parallel.

I'm waiting for those stack plus pickups to come out. Will they remain faithful to the classic strat neck sound of an ssl-1?

You know, if you play a bit with the controls on the Dave Gilmour set up, you can get some great classic strat sounds, along with the clarity and punch you get from EMG's.
