Not completely American... Sebastian is from Peterborough & his brother is a pro hockey goalie. My buddy was friends with them way back.

His dad was an artist too. My dad has one of his paintings hanging up in his living room. It was one of his last works before he died.

Re: Skid Row experts

As much as I enjoyed some of the songs on the first release I really felt "Slave To The Grind" had alot more depth and was overall a MUCH more cohesive and better album. It just seemed SO much heavier and SO much deeper and SO more focused....I don't think it got the praise it deserved since it came out as Grunge was really breaking.

It was very much a "baby with the bathwater" thing, a shame it had to happen but the overall was much healthier.

I agree. The self titled album had a few weak songs one it amongst some good songs. Slave to the Grind for me is a great album all the way through. One of my faves.

Re: Skid Row experts

The first album sounds like the album the rec execs wanted them to do.

Slave sounds like the Album the BAND wanted to do.

Though "sweet little sister" is one of my all-time fave Hair Metal songs.

Re: Skid Row experts

I listen to "Slave..." to this day & it's one of my favorite albums of all time, which kind of says a lot.

Heavy yet very focused from start to finish.

Hey....has anyone seen this new crap on VH1 "Supergroup" with Sebastian fronting Ted Nugent, Scott Ian, Evan Seinfeld & Jason Bonham????

Friggin' train wreck....but cool at the same time :laugh2:

Re: Skid Row experts

Hey guys, I did'nt know where to put this thread since it deals with guitars, amps, and tips, so I thought I'd try here.

What gear did Scotti Hill and Snake Sabo use in the early days. Mainly on the first and second album? I've been looking online but find different answers.

Also, for the song "I Remember You", there's the part at the end where you pull off from 15 to 12 on high e, 15 to 12 on b, and 15 to 14 on g strings, and repeat like 3 times really fast. For this part, do you guys pull each on separate, or bar your finger across the 12th fret? Any tips on playing this particular part?

Thanks!

Hello all newbie here, dug up from the crypt thread, they were Spectors and were custom made in Kramers custom shop...

Re: Skid Row experts

It was a blue Spector Scotti Hill was playing in I remember You. Snake Sabo had a black Les Paul shaped guitar in 18 and life, I think I saw a Red Hamer Explorer too. I think the Spectors were also in the Youth Gone Wild Video.

Kinda like these two, lol.....

Re: Skid Row experts

The Blue Double Cutaway?

I think it was actually a Spector.

Just watched the video a couple of times. It's a single pickup double cutaway with 3 x 3 headstock. In one see part of the Spector logo on the top of the headstock.

Did they look like these two?.....

Re: Skid Row experts

Anyway...I know for a FACT that almost all of the '80s records like Skid Row, Extreme & White Lion were tracked with the guitar players using an ADA MP1 going to an H&H power amp & a couple three cabinets that were miked up six ways to Sunday.

And really...NONE of those records have the same guitar tones even though the EXACT same MP1, power amps & cabinets etc. were used.

The tone is in the hands!

Sweet. Great benefit of being a member here, wonderful knowledge base.

I remember back then, I wanted to play guitar so badly, but couldn't afford even the cheapest guitar. It wasn't until years later, when I joined the Navy, started making my own money that I could afford to buy gear. At that time, the people I started hanging with, a Marshall & a GSP21 was the way to go. & to this day, that's my dream rig.

I've got a JMP2304 & a GSP21 legend stacked in the back of my room somewhere, I'm going to have to dig'm out & fire'm up.

Re: Skid Row experts

The green strat shaped one is a custom Kramer made at Garden State Music center in Tom's River, NJ. it was givin away in a contest in a UK metal mag.

The Gibson shaped LP with the Spector headstock was put together by Rod Schoepfer.

Here is the Kramer

And here is the LP with Joe Perry's Spector as well.

Hah! usually its the newbies or Dean Sweden that do these extreme zombie bumps... 36 posts in 9 years and you bump a thread from 2006... EPIC. :bigok:

Re: Skid Row experts

Random tidbits:

The power amp Michael Wagener recorded guitars with was a solid state McIntosh one, not H&H. There are a couple MW threads on Gearslutz with the complete rig details including the MP-1 settings.
I recall at least a couple of pictures of Scotti playing a blue beaten up HSS Charvel with the singlecoils and the controls ripped out.
Spector bass of course for Rachel, seemingly the same white one from the beginning until now? Such a great, distinctive tone.

Re: Skid Row experts

Hey guys,
After 23 years of searching for a guitar like Scotti Hill's Red and/or Blue Spector Blackhawk, I finally found one on Ebay a week ago. The guitars in question were actually custom jobs by chris hofschneider. He apparently took the specs from Hill's blue Jackson for the neck, a Les Paul Jr. Double Cutaway body, a Floyd Rose tremolo, Seymour Duncan JB bridge pick ups, and a Seymour Duncan Hot Rails for the neck. Spector put out the "Blackhawk" model, which is a close as your probably gonna get to the one Hill played - but even these are nearly impossible to find anywhere. Mine needs some work, but I pan to restore it from top to bottom and slap the JB and Hotrails in in. Still debating whether to leave it midnight blue or paint it red. Spector_Blackhawk.jpg

I was wondering where that went...was watching bidding but couldn't be there in the end. It's very cool and if you're restoring, it'll be even more of a beauty! Congratulations!!!
