Skid Row

Man, I've been riding around jamming on these dudes lately. I've been listening to Slave To The Grind. Scotti Hill and Dave Sabo got some absolutely killer guitar tones goin on here. I know they had some killer tones on their first CD as well. What kind of amps and gear did/do they use? I'm guessing some kind of ADA preamps or the like.

Re: Skid Row

Not sure Jolly, but "Slave To The Grind" is a serious kicka$$ album....love "Monkey Business".

I saw them a few years ago with Nugent & KISS....Snake was playing a strat-type axe & Marshalls & sounded killer, but not sure what they used back then for the album.

Re: Skid Row

i remember an article from a guitar mag back in the day and they were using jcm800's and ADA's and on slave to the grind they were using rivera's M100's and later on knucklehead amps and the tone on slave to the grind is just plain HEAVY

That sounds about right. I saw them live back in the day about 4 times and they smoked!! Slave jams big time. I listened to Riot Act yesterday cranked like hell 5 times in a row. The solo on that kicks major ass.

Re: Skid Row

I thought I read somewhere that the Strat-like guitars were Blackhawks or something like that, but I just did a search & couldn't find anything.

Anyone heard of those or something similar?

Snake Sabo's Kramer Doubleneck......

Another search says he played a lot of Kramers & Charvels

Re: Skid Row

Slave to the Grind does kick ass...I think it is funny that Bach is on the Gilmore Girls now... :D

Re: Skid Row

First album was the ADA stuff...

second album were the Riveras.

Apparently Snake plays a bit of everything. Red Molly on the Hamer page (whose owner has posted here on the forums) is modelled after Snake's.

Seriously great band. Sebastian is one of my all time fave singers.

Heh...we used to crank Skid Row on the way into DC to pick up girls at the dance clubs...SLAVE TO THE GROIN, was the line I believe I substituted at the time :laugh2: :D

Heavy albums, def a must buy/listen for anyone who like metal.

The key to nailing their tone is wearing a chain from your earing to your nose ring a la their one guitar player :laugh2:

Re: Skid Row

Only heard some of there stuff and what I heard was great, I;ve been meaning to pick up an album for awhile now. I do remember there tone being awsome as well.

Re: Skid Row

Slave was a solid release. When it came out I don't really think it got the coverage it deserved; they got written off with alot of the hair bands and I think they really were capable of evolving had that moniker not been branded on them.

"Darkened Room" "Wasted Time" and "Quicksand Jesus" I thought were the real highlights on that release.

Going to have to load that into the iPod and listen to it on the way into work tomorrow.

LMFAO, bro. That's classic. :chairfall

I dig Skid Row, but only the stuff with Sebastian. The singer they have now just doesn't cut it for me. I saw them on the KISS tour a few years ago too and thought they sucked. Whoever was running their sound needed to get hearing lessons or just beaten senseless. They're 10 times better with Sebastian.

Re: Skid Row

Go and get yourself a peavey XXX head, i played one today and it will give you instant skid row sounds you will ... well lets just say you'll be very very excited!

Re: Skid Row

I used to see the singer Bach from Skid Row on my street in Toronto in the late 80's early 90's.... i lived down the road from a girl he has dating..... She was an east indian woman (i think) with dyed blonde hair...... very pretty.... after he left for Skid Row you would only see him around at Xmas time....
