Slash A2pro:a painful story

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

You don't need to convert it to 4 conductor. You can just (gently) pull the tape off the junction between the two coils, then solder a separate wire just to that. Run that wire to ground to split the pickup. This way there's just one extra wire coming out and the coil junction still happens right inside the pickup. The electrons take the shortest path. (meaning no additional cable capacitance between the two coils)

Your text might go to the craftsman.I've read it many times and I don't think I can handle it myself.Thanks...
LTKojak,I'm right next door(to your right). If either selling or converting won't work,we'll be in touch...
P.S.Your picture's scaring me!

nice!

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

Ohhhhh! I think I get it. The one extra wire I solder to the junction between the coils, I send through a switch to ground. When that switch is closed it completes the circuit to ground and voila...single coil. Is that right? IM thinking about my neck pickup...how do i know which coil will be energized?....Thanks Frank

I knew i i came onto this forum for a reason!
I have a set of single wire pu's i am going to do this to:fing2:
thanks frank it does not get any easier

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

It isn't impossible to change a 2 conductor to 4 conductor. I have done it.

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

I would do what Frank suggested ,you have less chance of destroying the pup .PRS humbuckers have this extra wire instead of a 4 conductor wire

Re: Slash A2pro:a painful story

Just to correct some misinformation from earlier in the thread: you can indeed order Slash pickups in 4-conductor wiring as a Shop Floor Custom order. I know, because I have a pair.

The signature is still on the baseplate etc. You can also order custom colors - I wanted zebra/zebra for my pair instead of the standard zebra/reverse zebra, but you could order any combination of bobbin colors you want.

Richard, Slash signed up to allow certain changes in his signature set only recently.

At the OP date, it was not allowed to do it.

I'm not Frank, but I can answer that the functioning coil will be the slug coil.

I don't like the extra wire solution because it loses the shielding, and it'll be noisy when playing in an environment with neon lights.
