Slash Get in the Ring Intro Tone

Hi all

Trying to find a neck hb for my 80s LPC that will get that hollow midrangey tone similar to the intro to Gunners Get in the Ring.

I've tried a jazz, 59, custom, custom
custom, emg 89, to no avail. Closest I've come which I'm still using is the jazz with an A2 - but it's still not quite hollow enough.

I used to have a sustainiac in the neck that was supposedly "voiced" like a paf which sounded awesome - but the electronics broke and I want a simple passive solution.

APII and PG are next on the list (as I think it's the A2 that I like the sound of), but I'd appreciate some guidance to save time. Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Re: Slash Get in the Ring Intro Tone

The Alnico II Pro set is what slash has always used on all of the GNR, VR, snakepit records. So if that's the sound you want, then that is what you should use. Im pretty sure he also used a Marshall Jubilee on the "use your illusions" record.

Re: Slash Get in the Ring Intro Tone

After reading Slash's autobiography I'm not so sure Slash DID use Seymour Duncans on every song on all his GNR/VR stuff, but the A2P or 59 neck would be a good place to start.
That particular tone sounds like it has something else going on though, just from memory. Maybe a half cocked wah?

Re: Slash Get in the Ring Intro Tone

neck pickup, roll the tone off........ same tone on Paradise City intro solo, and Sweet Child O' Mine intro and solos as well.

Re: Slash Get in the Ring Intro Tone

take the A2 mag from the custom custom and swap it into the 59n before you buy anything else.

A2 in a 59 - great, will try this weekend.

I wonder though whether it's even a humbucker that he's using - sounds very P90/strat neck p/up ish. Am I barking up the wrong tree....

^^Remember, Izzy played on that album too, and Ive seen him play live with everything from les pauls, to 335's, to teles. So it may as well be izzy that you are hearing and not slash.......but who knows
