SLAYER question: What pickups were used by Kerry and Jeff on 'Reign in Blood'???????

Re: SLAYER question: What pickups were used by Kerry and Jeff on 'Reign in Blood'????

It might be that Jeff used BC Rich pups for Reign in Blood. He had a Rich Bich before he switched to Jacksons.

Kerry had a DMZ but I forget which one.

If you can find a BC Rich from the late 80's, that might be a good place to start.

I used to live next door to Dave Lombardo a couple years ago. He got a divorce and split though or I would have asked him to find out for ya.

DIMARZIO MEGADRIVE:28:

For the 50th time, the Megadrive was used from South of Heaven to Seasons In the Abyss, and is on his gun metal greay coloured BC Rich Flying V. The pickup was NOT used for RIB.:banghead:

then it is a super d or a 81 cause IIRC kerry said he went from the dimarzio's right to the EMG with nothing in between and he only used those two DMZ's

reign in blood = dimarzio megadrive and super distortion. out of the duncan line i have found that the custom does a excellent old school slayer impression.

My guess is Super Distortion, and it wouldn't have been an EMG 81 as he didn't start using them until Seasons in the Abyss with the ESP guitars originally. I remember this as right as rain and like it was yesterday. I was looking at a magazine and shaking my head seeing KK with an ESP... and with him going bald...

You can tell it's a SuperD by listening to it.

I always thought it was a Super D as well, not so much from listening to it, just from what I've read over the years.

They should have stayed with the Super D instead of sounding worse with every passing year.

I didn't really feel their guitar sound took a complete **** until God Hates Us All, granted the whole band took a **** on that album....

Oh man, that record is horrible.

I'm being honest when I say that Divine Intervention is my favorite next to Reign in Blood. Bostaph is killing it on that record. Both are all timers for me.

DI has some great tunes on it and some of the fastest riffs they ever put on record...

I won't get into a discussion of best Slayer albums (I like GHUA but nothing after) I will just say their guitar tone has been awful since Seasons in the Abyss onwards and gets worse with every album to the extent it completely ruins the music for me. WPB might be their best album ever, I just can't get past the stupid guitar sound. No balls whatsoever.

World Painted Blood isn't bad, lyrics are lolz, but it is Slayer. At least they redeemed themselves a bit after other recent efforts. I agree though, the production is odd on it, the guitar sound isn't what bothers me, it's more the way it's mixed.

God Hates us All got me into slayer lol. Bloodline. Of course I was like 20. Seasons and South of Heaven I like. I have to say though... I never really thought any of the guitar tones were anything to write home about. Live is a different story. I've seen them 4 times and every time it's pretty much the most intense metal show I've ever seen.

Just watch the Big 4. Them and Anthrax are the best. Metallica looks and sounds like the Spice Girls doing metal... ;)

yes that album is mixed terrible. Personally I think rib soh and Sita are some of the best thrash records made. Which I enjoy there other stuff also

OMG dude, I can't imagine getting into Slayer from GHUA.

I remember going to Camelot Music at the mall and buying the South of Heaven cassette when it first came out. I think I was 12 maybe? Haha, wow...

You have to be joking. Slayer are as boring as hell on that DVD. Anthrax were great, Metallica were sloppy and just awful.
You tell me the reprise of "Holy Wars" isn't the most crushing part of that whole DVD though. It's incredible.
