Slightly disappointing new guitar day

So I've been working on a project for a couple months now. I've always wanted a hh strat, but I've never found one I liked, so I decided to build my own!

I hunted down some parts I liked and ended up finding a mid 90s American Standard hard tail body, painted in a really cool "purpleeen" color that changes from green to purple depending on light. And I found a really cool neck that's a Fender replacement 60s series neck with Abalone inlays and hipshot locking tuners! To set the whole thing off, I had a good friend make me a hh loaded guard with a pearly gates bridge, and alnico 2 neck.

Now for the bad news, after having the guitar for 6 weeks, and the pickguard (send fully loaded and ready to wire in) I went in today to see what was taking so long. Not only did my tech say he didn't have it done yet, but he also claimed the pickups didn't work, and wanted to redo all the wiring himself. I would've been okay with this, had the pickguard not come from a trusted friend who has sent me great products before (one of our own forum bros actually), and had my tech not scratched up the body. Not just once, but multiple times.

To make a long story short, the guitar is put together, just not functioning and slightly beat up. So i didn't pay for any of the work and left mad today.

Photos will be added soon

Re: Slightly disappointing new guitar day

Here's some really bad cell phone shots taken before I rush to work, I'll take better ones outside tomorrow uploadfromtaptalk1428180302856.jpguploadfromtaptalk1428180355554.jpguploadfromtaptalk1428180394795.jpguploadfromtaptalk1428180436128.jpg

Here's just a couple to show how it looks with the pickguard, and a couple to show the purple Vs green color. Like I said, better to come tomorrow

Re: Slightly disappointing new guitar day

Why didn't you bolt it all together yourself?
The neck needed a slight shim and a couple other small things. I'm still a student and young father and I don't have a ton of time to try things on my own. So for the sake of what I thought would've been a quick put together, I trusted him. And got burned

What was his excuse as to why he scratched it so bad?

His claim was something slipped and hit it while he was working. He did offer to keep it until this Wednesday when he came back put my way, and he would "buff out all the bad marks, make the pickguard fully functional, and shine it all up" for me, but I didn't trust that at all and just took it home to do it myself

Re: Slightly disappointing new guitar day

You made the right move taking it away from that guy. Over the years that if someone screws something up, that's not the person to set it straight. He should have been more careful in the first place. Too bad that had to happen.

Re: Slightly disappointing new guitar day

That tech sucks.

I recently had a tech insult me for my 24.75" scale preference but it was all in good fun. I've never had a tech mess up my guitar and keep it for 6 weeks. One time a tech in MN kept it for 3 weeks and somehow stained my fretboard with a drop of something but that's the worst I've ever had to deal with.

Re: Slightly disappointing new guitar day

I'm sure I'll get the electronics fixed here within the week, and the scratches I'll buff out in my spare time buy I just wanted to share my experience today and hopefully show you guys a cool guitar here tomorrow! Even if it doesn't really work..

Re: Slightly disappointing new guitar day

wait. what. The PG is not working?
That's what my tech claims. But my good friend who made it all and sent it my way had it working perfectly before it was in the hands of my tech, so I feel there was some tampering with the wiring somewhere in his business. Not too happy about that, but the pickup you sent is working fine, this I know

ok. whew. I was worried. That pickup worked just peachy in my traditional a couple months ago.

Sorry to hear . I know how excited you were. I am sure you will get it worked out. The guitar looks awesome, Bro :bigthumb:

Thanks man! The pickup itself looks fantastic for what it's worth haha. But tomorrow my sister (who is a real photographer) will take some good shots of it for me to post for you fellas. I know you love your photos.... Kramerstein! (spelling?) haha

You need to run from that tech as far and as fast as you can.

It is unlikely that somebody prewires a pickguard and has "non-functional pickups" in there.

Re: Slightly disappointing new guitar day

I will be posting photos of the wiring today in the pickup lounge if anyone wants to take a look at it all
